I would be interested to have a ride on the lock and load just to see how it rides, from memory and from a little bit of research that I have done there isn’t much in the DC range for bigger guys, need the waist width to be 255 or more!

true that my friend, its like their team riders are all midgets haha although atm im riding a 251mm waist width on the biggest stance with =15 -15 angles and its just fine smile however im weird like that, most people might not like such a big stance

To be fair, most of the best freestyle riders are of small stature. I just passed a pro at New World in Wanaka this morning who was here for the Burton High Five. He wouldn’t have been more than 160cm. JP Walker is also a small guy.

I really want to get on Torsteins board, I really like the idea of the camber with flat spots. Torstein is also the first person I’ve seen who has lists that he uses the same board in powder as in the park.

Giving up on trying to find specs on the 2013 DC boards, makes it hard to work out dammit!

Thats very true, nearly every freestyle snowboarder is a smaller guy, and skiers are usually bigger. I’m 190cm but hey what can you do haha i fall harder :(

Surfers to, dunno to much about skaters but from memory Tony Hawk and Danny Way are pretty big guys, maybe I shoulda skated more!  I hear people say that T Rice is a big snowboarder, from memory he’s like 5’10” and 80kgs, hardly a big guy in the scheme of things.

your memory is damn good mate lol
Born: October 9, 1982
Hometown: Jackson Hole, WY
Resides: Jackson Hole, WY
Height/Weight: 5’10” / 172 lbs.

Lago is taller 6’1” little lighter though

So the things I’ve learnt are…

Board
- Regular width board with min 255mm waist is OK for size 12 boots
- Because of my size (130kg), a board with flex around 6.5-7 will feel closer to 5 on the mountain, so for All Mountain Freestyle aim around 7 stiffness
Knowing this, two questions…
Question - GoodRide says the DC Devon is an All Mountain Board, rather than All Mountain Freestyle.  Should that bother me?  Still tossing up between the DC Devon Walsh (7 stiffness) and NS Proto CT (5 stiffness).  From reviews, I prefer the latter but am wondering whether it’s too soft.  Thoughts?

Bindings
- Mid flex bindings would be preferable with soft boots and a mid flex board - will get some Ride Capo bindings

Final thoughts anyone?!?!?

Not at all my friend, what the companies choose to call it is just for marketing purposes and considering your weight it will actually be softer then you think. Also the DC Devun has a flat profile with rocker tip n tail so its perfect for all mountain freestyle (technically its a Backcountry board, but if they called it that then most people who dont ride backcountry wouldnt buy it)

All together your list of thoughts looks great, that is about 1000 times more information then what i had when i bought my first board haha

Sweet!  Now I just need to figure out who sells the DC Devon in 162cm…

I think you should go with the DC Walsh. However the new 2013 model will have a micro camber instead of a flat to rocker profile.

hey guys im heading to Canada at the end of the year and will be getting a board over there. I’m after suggestions.. I’m about 5’8” and only 65kgs, ride everything so would be after something versatile. Also, bindings recommendations? been boarding for a few years now but only 1 week at a time, havent done a season yet.

Hey soulman,

Feel free to start another thread if you want. Might get more replies for your specific situation.

Also check out this recent thread. It contains my recommendation for a versatile board for Canada. https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/7049/

I honestly think you will save money if you purchase a board in Australia at the end of the season and take it over. The prices between Australia and Canada are pretty close to begin with. You will likely get a good discount on a board here towards the end of our season, plus you can then get your GST back at the airport when you leave.

When are you heading to Canada? Where are you going exactly?
