156 vs 153 board size

Hi, i’d say i am an intermediate rider. Like to cruise the mountain, hit small kickers here n there. Not too intersted in jibbing or going super fast. Want to start learning some tricks/spins on ground and off kickers . Mainly riding in australia. I’m 170cm tall and weigh 72kg. Size 9.5 Burton Hail boots. I can get the Rossi Taipan for an insane price and i like the amptek hybrid camber profile. My question is would i be better off with the 153 or the 156? I have ridden one in a 153 and had a lot of fun but wondering whether or not there would be any benefit in sizing up to the 156? I have ridden a 155 before but nothing bigger than that. Thoughts…

The 56 will be more stable on take off an landing kickers, and also for the speeds you need for the kickers. The smaller one would be better for you if you were interested in jibbing, it will allow you to spin better off kickers, but will wash out more on landings and at speed.

Based on the fact you sound like you’re more interested in freeride and air time, go for the 156. If the reason you liked the 53 so much was because it was easy to throw around, then maybe the 53 would suit you better. I haven’t tried the Taipan but every other rossi board I’ve ridden has been super light, so I don’t think you should have too much trouble throwing it around. I’m 170cm and 65kg, currently riding a 55 Rossi.

At your height and weight you could go either way. As SamNZ said, the 156 will be more stable at speeds. It’s also better for carving and will give more float in powder (which you won’t get too much of in Oz). The 153 will be easier to spin, press, butter and jib.

If you were riding overseas I’d say go the 156 but I think you will have more fun on the 153 in Australia. I’m 170cm and 67kg and the biggest I would ride in Oz is 152. I ride bigger boards overseas.

Welcome to Boardworld, Wilso! cool smile

The 153 will make 80% of what you want to do easier/better.

ride 153 in Australia…its just more fun to do so

Sorry, I misinterpreted the “not interested in jibbing” as being anything other than freeride and kickers. I assume you just mean boxes and rails. Ground tricks and hitting the side of runs is generally still considered jibs these days. The 153 will suit you better if you’re more focused on spins/presses and the freestyle aspect - as rider says. The 56 would be better for kickers/cliffs/speed/off piste and just charging in general.

Although I don’t think you’d be too disappointed with the 56 as the new Rossi boards are pretty light, and it would be more practical if you wanted to head overseas and ride powder or go big mountain.

Sorry about the confusion SamNZ, I meant im not interested in rails and boxes or straight lining the mountain. Just like cruising at moderate speeds, hitting the sides of groomers, small kickers (atm), and want to start learning some spins etc. Thanks for the advice. Thinking maybe go with the 153 for Australia and grab something a little bigger whenever i do get to rip up somewhere like Japan.
