I do like Rossi, As I’ve been demoing their boards this season and what they’ve come out with has been great, especially for the level of riding he is looking towards. That also means I know about them, and so suggesting them makes more sense than boards I don’t know as much about.
Are you saying you have the district in a 150? and your mate has it in a 161? I don’t think it comes in a 50, but a 51. I have it in the 61 and 55. They both have the same flex pattern, pretty damn soft board, which is why I warned it may be softer than he wanted. As a general rule, most boards do tend to get stiffer has they get larger due to the fact if a 160 board had the same flex as a 145, then the weight and strength of the rider would snap the board.
Keeping in mind that he’s said he’s leaning towards all mountain freestyle, the Ride DH is a good suggestion, it’s a solid versatile board that you wouldn’t be disappointed with.
The models are years apart. I think ours is a 2007 and his is a 2009.
I have also seen the district used as prized and covered with alcohol advertising as competition prizes. Personally I find it a really cheap board and would definitely go for something other than the district if you are thinking Rossi.
For ski brands, K2, Salomon and Rossi are the only snowboards I would even consider riding and K2 is the only one I’d consider buying (but I haven’t seen the new Rossi’s. I think they are better now).
haha…I’m settling on the Ride Rodeo for the Bindings, but the board list just keeps changing - def no consensus
The DC Devon Walsh gets an awesome review here - http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5843859&categoryid=3076152 - so I’m tossing up between the NS Proto CT and DC Devon Walsh. The Devon Walsh just looks so stable (maybe because of the flat profile?) so it’s between that and the NS Proto CT
In line with what croseks is saying, I’ve got soft boots (Vans Encore), and the Rodeos are also on the soft side, so is medium flex OK for the board?
All this also makes me realise I should have gone on a demo day back in July/early August.

Pretty sure Devun has always had a fairly stiff board. He rides big mountain so the board needs to be stable.
No problems regarding a medium flex board with soft boots or bindings. I wouldn’t worry about that. Although you will get more response out of the board with stiffer bindings. Just a thought.
Welcome to Boardworld, nedrum!

Join us at The Shred next month. There will be a lot of demo boards and bindings.
Yeah ive got the 2011 DC Devun Walsh (the board in the review) and its awesome! Its not too aggressive so even a beginner could ride it fairly easily but it will definitely keep up with even the most advanced riders, its super light and ive gone over some rocks with it a few times but the board is just fine, really tough and fast base.
DC rate it as a 7.5 but in all honesty i weigh 86kg and its definitely not an ironing plank, its more like a 6.5 or 6/10 for flex so for your weight it would feel more like a 5/10 which is spot on for all mountain, also id consider the 162 size for you (its super light and has really fast turn initiation so it will feel a lot shorter)
Anyway there is other great boards out there also, but for me this board does everything really well!
However just be aware that if you get a medium-stiff board you really should get medium flex bindings because you can always loosen up a notch on your bindings for a bit more freedom and strap them down tight when you want more response. Ride Capo bindings come to mind, they are medium flex and cost the same as the Rodeos, but give you a bit more power
bit off topic: I think it was the DC Devun a few years ago that had the graphic of the sheep jumping over the fence? One of my fave ever graphics. Might have been the very first year DC boards came out, actually.
this the one? its the DC HKD from 09 i think
Yep, it was one of the first DC boards when they first moved into the snowboards market. Devun moved from Forum to DC…
DC Devun Walsh (2008)
The sheep leaping for pastures new is an artistic middle finger to Devun’s old sponsors at Forum, who warned him ‘the grass is always greener’. Such a clear statement in the graphics might just be a first…?
haha so the 09 graphics must mean, the grass is still green on this side haha
DC may be one brand that could lure me away from Lib/Gnu! I almost bought one through a mate who was a rep for them but they hadn’t brought out rockered boards at the time which is what I was after. Hope they have a couple at the shred to have a crack on, Torstein couldn’t be wrong right?

You’re basically comparing 3 different boards. They might share the same name but boards evolve over the years, as does the company that produces them. Especially considering the 2007 is a camber, and I assume the 09 is either a camber or the first year they introduced rocker to it. We have 3 different versions of the district in our shop. I’m on the 2011 and while I don’t think anyone would ever call it an amazing board, it’s definitely a board suited to the intermediate or beginner-intermediate park rider, which Nedrum is. Although for his stats the board might be too soft for him - but that’s personal choice and for him to decide.
Why does being cheap, discredit the boards performance?
Of all those brands K2 is the one I would never buy again. I’ve been looking at getting a Salomon for a while now and after demoing a bunch from Rossi I would absolutely buy their boards. Both salomon and Rossi have been producing some great boards recently.
Just curious, why would you never buy K2 again?
I broke 2, I’m on my 3rd (managed to get them all free out of warranty’s) and i dislike how it rides most of the time. K2 like to use dye cut and use it as a selling point. It’s outdated and makes the base weak. While trying to get the boards warrantied I also had to battle with K2 for weeks about the fact it was a warranty issue and that I shouldn’t have to pay to have my board “assessed” or shipped.
Personal opinion on them, but not necessarily a bad brand.

Yeah man they are awesome boards but even the newer stuff is a sort of modified camber (lock n load) but never the less camber can be super fun also!
I was about to buy the Jones Flagship, found my size and everything was ready to go, then literally while i was in the shop about the buy it, heard some bad reviews about the topsheet (it isnt sealed properly or something, like you can literally see the core and it just absorbs water and rots slowly) anyway i wanted a top end board and took the DC home instead, best move i ever did!
Capita BSOD is probably the only other board ive ridden that is very similar to the DC boards, similar flex, similar profile, similar tip n tail, flat kick tech (hell they are practically the same haha)
