Skiers are idiots - freestyle is NOT freeriding!!!

Avatar

Snowboarders, sick of skiers disrespecting snowboarding?

I’m personally sick of that Luke Kneller idiot (the one who does the Perisher snow reports) ignorantly referring to park/pipe riders as “freeriders”.

Normally, it wouldn’t matter, he’d just be laughed off as a pathetic, clueless moron skier who thinks he knows better than the snowboarders who actually came up with the term on the first place - but no, because he does the Perisher snow reports, his ignorance is broadcast to a lot of newcomers to the sport, who simply don’t know any better. They wrongly assume that because he’s part of ‘the media”, he must be right - and before you know it, MANY people are using the term “freeriders” incorrectly. Then eventually “freestyle” will actually become “freeriding” - well, in terms of the terminology anyway.

Why does this matter? It’s important, because it’s just another example of the dismissive disrespect some skiers still have for snowboarding - and it’s about time snowboarders did something about it.

So next time you see a snow report on Facebook and they use the terms “freeride”, “freeriding” or “freeriders” incorrectly, don’t just shrug it off as a harmless mistake - leave a comment letting them know they’re wrong, and eventually they’ll learn.

Same goes with Thredbo’s Facebook page. Every time they mention the “Thredbo Freeride Series”, leave a comment to let them know that as NONE of the events in the series actually contain any competitive freeriding, it’s a stupid name for the event.

So he got his terminology wrong. I don’t see how that warrants him being labelled a ‘pathetic, clueless moron’ unless I’m missing something here….

yeah you are missing out on how passionate chucky is on this subject, but that is about it!

Also, there is some obligation on individuals who have media commitments to assume the responsibility to do some research into their area of reporting including the terminology they use .... and then be big enough to accept criticism and correction when they get things wrong

Yeah, you are missing something.

You’re missing the fact that he’s been alerted to his mistake, MANY times, and been shown irrefutable evidence that his use of the term is erroneous - but as far as he’s concerned, as a skier in ‘the media’ he knows better than anyone else, and has the right to say whatever he wants!!!

The more he does it, the more I’m convinced it’s a deliberate attempt on his part (and his ignorant skier mates, who also share his opinion) to change the meaning of the term through constant repetition - working on the distorted premise that if you make a false statement enough times, it becomes ‘truth’.

The more you get upset by it, the more likely he’s going to carry on doing it. If you don’t watch the report, then you won’t see it and therefore you won’t know if it’s said or not. Does it really matter what people call it?

Does it change the sport? And more importantly, does it change how you ride?

And to be fair, it’s not like snowboarders have never given any disrespect to skiers.

Whether or not I personally watch it is irrelevant - he’s STILL going to do it until he’s stopped.

OF COURSE it matters “what people call it” - if those “people” are in a position to wrongly influence newcomers to the sport.

What’s next? How soon before the skiing community insist that from now on, snowboarding will be referred to as “monoskiing”. Does it change the sport? Does it change how you ride? Nope, but I’ll STILL fight it - because the more we as snowboarders simply bend over and take when the skiing community attempt to butt-rape us, the more they’ll do it.

If someone gets your name wrong once, that’s a mistake. If you continually correct them, but they continue to get it wrong, that’s disrespect. That’s what we’re currently getting from Luke Kneller.

Chuck, hats off to you mate.

I am super impressed with your efforts here. shaka

hahaha, sorry chuck but i can’t understand why you would hold something with so much passion that really has no impact on anything at all. You know what his referring to is incorrect and so do people that know anything about the sport, why get your knickers in a knot over some perisher media mogul haha. theres more important issues in life other than Luke Kneller’s ski reports

Would you feel the same if someone thought so little of YOU that they constantly got YOUR name wrong, no matter how many times you corrected them?

Meh i couldn’t give a f*ck what he calls it.

sorry chucky. I’m with them. Call it single plank skiing and I’ll still do it.

If that was the case, then it isn’t worth my time worrying over it in the first place. They’re doing it to get a reaction, and getting upset just means they win. I’d choose to ignore them and walk away to be honest.

No wonder so many skiers have such little respect for snowboarders. Why should they, when so many snowboarders have such little respect for the sport themselves?

You failed to see the irony is criticising skiers lack of respect for snowboarders when here you are labelling all skiers ‘idiots’ (see title) and other derogatory terms. Unnecessary and immature imo.
