as the title says…
looking into getting an iron and wax
which ones do you have and use?
thanks [=
have a look at this old thread
I use an old clothes iron and it works just fine.
edit: make sure you also pick up a scraper, a stiff brush and a Scotchbrite pad.
I know you can get some pretty cool kits off eBay, have all the gear and nice carry bag for it all….
you can get an iron from big w for about $8. If you went to a Salvos you could probably get one for $2…then get an old expired credit card/membership card. Done.
if you go for a clothes iron, try to get one without some fancy teflon base - plain metal is best. the reason is that the teflon tends to flake off and get all over your base. Having said that, this happened to me and the teflon flakes just came off in the excess wax when I scraped down anyway.
ohh thanks for that link mudhoney.. it didnt show up in the search i did of wax.. lolz
Yeah, I bought a $19 iron from Good guys and it does the job fine.
I use the Burton Hot Stick Iron.
Any iron will work. Just make sure it has an adjustable temperature dial.
Burton Hot Stick Iron
I use a $10 iron I picked up from Kmart… although I find it takes a while to spread the wax cause of how big the iron is and doesn’t move with the shape of the board so well. I want to get one of the proper snowboard iron’s, but just can’t justify spending $100+ on it.
Balmoral Boards has a snowboard iron on sale for $50
Yeah.. Im gonna head there tomoro [=
Thanks bracer, found it on their website, for sale on there too!!!
Also, this one from Board Supply Co. $50.

whyyyy spend $50 when you don’t need to? I don’t get it.
One advantage is the size and weight of the snow-specific irons. They are about half the size of the K-mart irons, so easier to pack for travel. I find they spread the wax a bit easier as well.
Size cords… a normal iron is just too big for my liking
