Foresters are pretty bomb proof, cords!!!!!
What happened to the Liberty?????
Umm we got it for cheap (94 wagon) with 12mths rego on it and figured that surely having just passed rego that there couldn’t be too much wrong with it. Shall not make that mistake again! Spent nearly what we paid for it within a few weeks fixing something with the ABS (common in that first lot of liberty’s that had it apparently), as well as suspension was screwed…then not that long ago, pretty much everything down near the wheels apart from the tyres and rims and the axle had to be replaced….so we want to cut our losses and get rid of it before something else on it breaks. We’ve just put 12mths rego on it and will sell it for cheap as chips, just to be done with the darn thing.
Was our fault for not trusting our instincts with the guy we bought it off…he seemed like a massive bogan and in hindsight, parts of his story about why he was selling it didn’t really add up…and the rego sticker details didn’t match the rego papers! but we only noticed that ages after. I think that particular car had just had the s#$t driven out of it and not been properly looked after.
New one has got a logbook with all the scheduled services having been stamped so we’re going ok, so far. Its the limited so already has tow bar, roof racks, nudge bar, fog lights…nothing more to be spent except we’ll spend $50 on a stereo with an aux input for the tunes from the MP3 player! This will be freddy’s car until we go away, then just before we leave, I’ll sell my impreza and we’ll leave the forester at my mum’s…when we come back from sweden the forester will be mine and Freddy wants to get a 1 tonne kingswood ute! preferably a flatbed V8 converted for gas/petrol (I think).
Hopefully ya got a good one this time around then!!!!!
An NRMA inspection is always great value when buyin a car also!!!!!
Not only will it find a problem that could break the bank, it can also give bargainin power against the seller as well!!!!!
They actually don’t do them anymore Mizu!
I tried to get one before i got my current car. You have to go private (it costs a bomb!)
Then when i did have my car drama’s and took it to “my mechanic” (i us the term loosely as I had been to him twice before) he told me off for not taking him to at least look the car over at the dealer before I bought it. Nice guy! Highly recommended him!
this was such a bargain that I knew we didn’t have any spare time for that kind of thing! The ad went up sat night and I was lucky enough to see it. Sent him a text, no reply…sent him an email enquiry, no reply…kept calling every hour from 8.30am till he picked up at about 11.30….turned out he was working in the city overnight as a security guard so hadn’t got any of my msgs. We raced the 1hr and 3/4 down there. We were lucky to make it to be the first ones to look.
The guy’s phone was going off constantly, even as we were signing the papers & he had to keep telling everyone it was sold, and there were others on their way there at the time, too. A bit of a gamble, I know…but pretty sure this one is going to turn out just great! Its really clean inside, got all the logbooks stamped, as I said.
Thats what happened with my new motorbike. I saw it go up (was up for about 30 mins) and I called and saw it that night. I did a revs check on the phone and bought it. 2006 model with no damage, good VIN / REGO numbers and 3200 km’s on the clock for 1/2 the new bike cost was worth the risk for me and it has been great since!
I just got two new pairs of pants…
I am not sure why i give others a hard time about being a gear whore… I think i now own several ski outfits….
And it wasn’t until i put these two together I realised how similar they really are… oh well. Ones for work and ones for play… can’t be helped.

I just got an email alert about another forester that just went up on gumtree. The people are trading it in today, but thought they’d put it up on gumtree and see if they could give someone a bargain, instead of giving money to a car dealer. its a ‘99 limited, done 160,000kms, got 11mths rego…$4500 ono….bargain!

That sounds like a great price!!!
I recently bought a new headlight bulb- when I figured out how it came out (did this at night in the rain with only the glow from a nearby YHA) turns out was the easiest headlight I’ve ever fixed!!! Took me about half an hour, next will take 5 minutes

Yeah, R&C (Ron and Chris) Beatson Street!!!!!
yeah. we took the lemon liberty there soon after we bought it to get the first lot of problems fixed. We explained that we didn’t have much money so wanted it done as cheaply as possible. Still ended up paying extra for special subaru coolants and whatnot. I don’t know if they are contracted to only use the subaru branded stuff but if they were I wish they had told us. Using that stuff cost us about 150-200 extra dollars and so that was the only time we went there.
