Snowboard Repairs in Sydney. Where to go?

Avatar

Hi Guys,

had a bit of a run in with a begginner loosing control on the slopes on Saturday afternoon, managed to hit me when he lost control smashing right into the nose edge of my board, it sent me flying and tumbling down the hill, i thought everything was ok till i go to the bottom of the hill and noticed that the edge of my board has been pushed in and as split the board around it. Bit hard to explain but i can get a pic later on today when i get home.

Just wondering has anyone got some recommendations of places that can do a nice repair for me? I live out near Camden/Campbelltown way if anyone knows some places out this way.

Thanks
Josh

There is a shop called snow/skate/surf that is opposite sizzler/maccas & near the skate park…you go in the street to go in to hungry jacks or red rooster but keep going and turn right. You could give them a call first and ask. They are pretty nice in there & I reckon the guy would fix it for you.

Thanks Cords, yeah i know where they are. Just wasnt sure if snowboard stores ususally sent the stuff out to be repaired or if they repaired it in house.

Is the edge dented significantly, or is more just the board split (delamination)? I’m not too sure which stores near you would be able to do such a repair. I know Darren at STM in Bondi Junction is very good at snowboard repairs and he should be able to fix this for you. Basically they do what they can to straighten out the edge (depends on the damage), then they epoxy your board back together. They clamp the damaged area while it bonds, and seal it so no moisture will be able to get in. That’s the biggest risk with delaminations; moisture gets in, freezes, expands, further splits the board.

It would be great if you could post a couple of images of the damage.

Cool, maybe try that store near you first. They should fix it in-house. If not, they will probably tell you to take it elsewhere.

yeah I know the guy at the shop in leumeah has a proper workshop out the back so worth taking it to him and asking, anyway!

How old is the board?

Sometime companies help out with warranty.

Not for impact damage. Delaminations by edge impact are very obvious and I doubt any company would warranty it.

Board was new last year, but i highly doubt any company would warrant impact damage. My best bet would of been to make that guy pay for repairs but i didnt even know it had happened till a few minutes after and couldnt see him anywhere.
Might do the ring around tomorrow and see what a few places say. I might give STM a call, as thats where i got my jacket the other week (forgot to name drop boardworld for the discount :( ) i work at Rosebery so Bondi is only like 10-15 mins away.
I have taken some pics, i will try and post them tomorrow when i am on my home PC

Lucky that it looks like it is just past the effective edge dude!!!!!

You could probably repair it yaself if ya the handy type!!!!! Araldite 2 Part Epoxy, a file and some clamps will do the trick!!!!!

But as Jeremy said, the water that would’ve gotten in is the enemy!!!!! Let it dry out as much as possible no matter who/where it gets repaired!!!!!

Redjames, I called up Snow Skate and Surf this morning and they said to bring it down tomorrow, their guy that does their in house repairs isnt in today. I quizzed her about in house and sending them out and she said depending on the damage it could be done either way.

Mizu, It is higher up on my nose which i guess is the luckiest bit. I just wish i noticed the damage earlier so i could of hit the kid up for the repair costs.
I have contemplated doing the repair my self, depending on the costs of repair, it might be the way to go. I have had it at home leaning to that edge to drain as much moisture and water out.

Here’s hoping for a relatively easy and cheap repair.

Hey Josh, did you get the name and contact details of the person who damaged your board? If it was me, I’d sure as hell be making them pay for any repairs, or a replacement board.

I have had it at home leaning to that edge to drain as much moisture and water out.

Should stand it up with the openin pointin upwards, and in a warm dry room (preferably wood fire heated), and also for as long as possible!!!!!

Minimum about a week if ya can!!!!!

Best of luck with it, mate!!!!!  shaka

Definitely get that fixed properly. STM and Balmoral Boards are two good options. Both awesome shops to browse around too, so it’s worth the drive to get your board fixed. If you leave it or do a home repair, you risk damaging the board a whole lot worse. Get the professionals to fix it and it will be pretty much as good as new. They might even need to cut the edge to straighten it out (don’t quote me on that).
