Spaz not 100% sure what you’re saying mate but it sounds like you’re of the opinion I should just concentrate on diet and isometric contractions. I’m going to look into a physio or chiro who specialises in sports injuries ASAP to get a proper professional opinion. With regards to steering clear of alcohol etc, well aware of that, last time I had my ear drilled out I laid off it and the specialist was really impressed with how quickly it all healed up, aiming for the same this time around with both the ear and the back.
On a side note, I spent about 3 hours walking around the city today, basically no pain, I am aware of it but it really isn’t stopping me from doing anything. I’m seriously considering doing some form of training this week just softly softly but I need to do something or I’m going to go mental.
I have also come to the conclusion that when I hit the 6 week mark there’s nothing stopping me from having another CT scan to see how it’s healing/healed so I can be a little more sure of when I can return to surfing/boarding.
Not just diet and posture. It just sound like they would do the most benefit since your not in pain.
Exercise was also a dominant suggestion.
Sounds like your recovering well and have a good strategy planned.

Update time I spose as there has been some movement at the station. Firstly my ear is slowly subsiding in the pain stakes however it’s still fairly gross, I have to change the cotton wool twice a day and it’s still got some blood on it. When my GF pulled it out yesterday she almost pulled the internal packing gauze with it which was a really unpleasant sensation, not painful but felt like my brain was being pulled out through my ear. Managed to put it back to kinda where it was without any further drama.
Prior to having my ear done I was taking one anti inflammatory and two krill oils in the morning and two panadeine forte at night before bed for two weeks straight. After my ear was done was on all sorts of morphine, codeine, paracetamol and anti inflammatory meds for two days and then the same anti inflammatories and 8-10 panadiene forte a day and antibiotics. As of Monday I’m off codeine through the day, switched to a couple of nurofen 400mg bombs, one in the morning and one in the arvo. I think due to the amount of codeine I’ve had I have built up a resistance so I switched night time to another nurofen and a couple of mersyndols which is working okish.
It seems the ear is settling down some but I haven’t noticed my back much for obvious reasons. I’m a bit over taking all these meds, generally I would be lucky to have maybe two nurofen a month, started on a multivitamin and concentrating on drinking as much water as I can through the day to flush my probably very strained kidneys and liver out.
Now that I’m back on my feet again I had an appointment with a sports physio this morning, went pretty well. Basically my fracture is like half set glue now, was reiterated that it’s very stable and that I should be ok as long as I minimise impact. If not for my ear I would be good to swim, little disappointed that I can’t! I have ok range of motion through my back considering but it’s still too early to stretch my back. Instead I have been given a set of exercises and stretches that work on posture and hip mobility and does loosen up my back a bit. After doing them I noticed my back felt a little more free and relaxed which was good. Have another appointment next week, going to work hard on the regimen and hopefully start to improve. I might dare ask about a timeframe for returning to the snow at next weeks session, hoping for sometime early to mid August, please please please!

Only overlapped a couple of days, run out of the Celebrex today actually. The below is an extract relating to reaction of the two
GENERALLY AVOID: Concomitant use of COX-2 inhibitors with other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may increase the potential for serious gastrointestinal toxicity including inflammation, bleeding, ulceration, and perforation. The risk is dependent on both dosage and duration of therapy.
MANAGEMENT: The use of COX-2 inhibitors with non-aspirin NSAIDs should be avoided.
I’m not sure two days would constitute a major issue and my stool and urine is fine.
haha since you mentioned your stool, when I was reading about all the codeine you took i was like woooaahhh, I hope you’ve been eating your prunes and your all-bran! haha

Hey mate, it’s good to hear you’re slowly recovering. I know it must be frustrating right now. Hopefully it won’t be too long until you’re back on your feet / boards!
There was a couple of days after my op with no movement at the station but muesli and coffee help out ha ha. Only been once in my life I had to resort to prune juice, that was gnarly, really bad! The kitchen furniture is all good!
Might be going to the snow this weekend with a mate whose kinda a weak intermediate I guess, won’t be doing anything exciting other than following him around but will be good to get back on the hill. Not a definite though as he has a bit that he needs to sort out to free up the weekend. Been off all pain meds for about a week which is awesome, my brain feels like its capable of more than adding single digits again which is a bonus.
Been walking everyday morning and night for about 40 mins a pop, living on muesli for brekky, chicken and salad for lunch and predominantly salmon steak and broccoli for dinner. Had a couple of reds and a jimmy and coke on the weekend, no ciggies since the 28th May and if the scales at the gym are to believed I’ve dropped 19kgs in 3 weeks ha ha ha ha ha! I jumped on the scales before my operation at the hospital so the anaesthetist could work out the dose to keep me under and was at 117kgs. Jumped on a different set of scales (tanita) at anytime fitness last night and they read 98kgs, something decidedly wrong with those scales I think, jumped on another set and they read 111kgs which is probably closer to the mark.
Picked up a months membership to anytime fitness for $19 on the net and went last night to do a workout, did a light 500m row to warm up and then a light shoulder session followed up by my usual back exercises and stretches and actually feel better today than I did yesterday. Had another appointment with the ENT this morning, sucked out some more crap from my ear, still another 3 weeks outta the water at least but he did say it looks really good for the timeframe involved.
All in all things are looking very good, will be stoked to have a slide this weekend but if it doesn’t happen it’s not the end of the world, gives me more time to work on my strength and fitness.
