Cheers Deano Im heading home that way tomorrow so will have to drop in and take a look.
Not a problem mate.
should stores get a lower rating if the sales assistants won’t haggle? c’mon, it’s not a flea market!
I agree, however the rating is more about over all experience rather than just a con lol.
I do agree that if you’re in there chatting for a while, getting help and you purchase a large item, next time you go in, if they hook you up with a discount then you feel like a vip
STM Bondi - 5/5
Originally i hated the thought of going into shops so the workers would try and sell me stuff but this place was different. I had some great conversations there about gear and the guys really just wanted to help without selling something. Met CJ Parker there and he was awesome. I had to get my board waxed in a rush and then walked out with some new bindings! He helped set everything up and talked me through things to help my riding.
As I’ve improved with my riding and finally figured out what i like best to ride with, i’m pretty sure that my next board will come from those guys.
HOWEVER… don’t take your wife with you, especially if there’s a dude there called Jeremy. He seems to know things about her… creepy. I should take back that 5 snowboard rating. haha i kid, i kid. To summarise, i’m so impressed by the joint i think it’ll become my local.
And some extra thoughts, though it’s been over a year since:
Balmoral Boards - 4/5
Their Mosman shop has shut down which is a shame as that’s where i did all my buying until i got tired of paying bridge tolls and looked for something on the other side. Bought my boots there when i wasn’t really planning to and so i ended up staying just past their closing time, just so i could be sure the boots were right. Staff there were nice and friendly too, got some great advice and generally had a great time being in the shop. Would love to go to the Narrabeen shop more often, my sister keeps asking but i’m too lazy.
I took away a point for two reasons - I didn’t know the boot liners were heat moldable and they didn’t tell me, but i did go back and they sorted it out. And the other point was that they sold me a pair of bindings that were on sale that were a size S. Had trouble (except in the store…) getting my boot in every time and could never get the straps to ratchet in and at STM i found out that i should be riding size M for size 8 boots. D’oh, oh well.
Other shops i’ve been to:
OneTrackMind Crows Nest - only bought a jacket from them but they’re a good bunch of dudes, pretty chilled out and happy to help without pressuring.
ESS Parramatta - went there when i first started boarding so didn’t know what to expect. It was a huge sale night which may not have helped but the staff were a bit mixed. Mind you this was about 4/5 yrs ago.
Biggest issue with snowboard shops is inconsistent staff
OTM -Crows nest
been good every time we went there
prices are reasonable, sales staff are good
no grip with this place…close to work so its a bonus
ESS Parramatta
1st time - shot the breeze had a look around ended up buying some smalls goods, the guy serving me was all chilled and helpful
2nd time….had a look around didnt buy anything…shot the breeze with the assistants cause it wasn’t too busy all good…
so i went back next time got some custom insoles done there
Brought my friend along next time cause she needed some new boots, the lady there treated us like we were going to steal from the place or something
that was like a WTF faceslap after spending some good money there
Alpsport -
Large range of boots…probably biggest in Sydney
introduced numerous friends to this place..got my missus boots there (amongst other stuff), didnt quite fit right after taking it home
took it back, they fixed around the boot…got some raisers or something like that installed on the footbed
sorted…all good…our group of mates probably spent over 5g in this place
same deal happened again
1 day went in ....treated like i was going to steal from the place
added to this additional treatment….told to pay 50 bucks to try on boots…like seriously WTF faceslap (happened to some of my other mates too)
yeah we’ve been there before and not bought stuff previously….but i guess the concept of shopping around doesn’t make sense to the assistant that day
having said this…..
what is on sale in one store isnt necessarily on sale at another so
I still would goto these places because it still does pay to shop around
*end rant*
fatima4u’s favourite shop is Cherri Cherri Pow Pow in Jindy!!!!!
One dude in there told him how to flex a board properly!!!!!
This

Thats what i’m afraid of. that’s kinda why i like buying things online and asking you guys for advise lol. only shop you guys are going crazy about is STM and it’s AGES away from me lol.
I dont understand the love for STM, pretty far down the list for me based on my experience but maybe I just don’t get the Bondi thing being from the northern beaches?
Walk in, asked if I needed help, told the guy I was just having a look while my chick was getting her hair done. Looked at some boards then some bindings, walked over to the helmets to have a squiz as I’m pretty keen to get one. Asked the same guy if they had the Red Mutiny and if they had the certified version, was told there wasn’t one. I mentioned that I had read there was a difference on here and got some answer about what would forum geeks know. I forced a laugh and made my way out of the store a little perplexed at why they get such a good rap on here. This was early on a weekend morning and there was maybe one other person in the store, I would have bought a helmet if things had gone differently, as it was I left with a bad taste in my mouth.

It’s all to do with first impressions. Do you remember his name so everyone can avoid him lol.
