Rate your local Shop

Avatar

Hi Guys,

Ozgirl gave me a great idea, I’ve made this thread so everyone can get an idea of what the local snowboard shops around the area are like. Post reviews here so members can get an idea of what shops are good and bad. If there is a sales Assistant that stands out please post there name here so members can speak to or avoid sales assistants. Please only post reviews on snowboard shops.

Place a review of experiences you have had with your local shop and give them a rating out of 5 snowboards (1 being poor and 5 being amazing).

Please only post reviews for the past 12 months as employees change and so forth.

SnowCentral - 4 out of 5 snowboards shred

Review:
SnowCentral is defiantly the best experience i have had with a snowboard shop. All the staff are friendly and are ether snowboarders or skiers that actively go on snow trips. I have bought many things from there 2 stores and have never had an issue with them. The only thing that lets them down is some of there younger sales assistants are still learning the ropes.

There Sales are incredible, I have picked up great snow boots for $50 and jackets for $60. Couldn’t beat that. They are more than happy to haggle for prices on regular items to.

I defiantly recommend going there.

SnowBiz - 3 out of 5 snowboards shred

Review:
Based in Brisbane city and the gold coast, they are more suited to the snowboarders as most of there sales assistants are pros and very knowledgeable.  I learnt a lot for talking to a couple of them and they where more than happy to help. They have a huge range of snowboards and they are Brisbane’s only suppliers or Burton products. However their prices are quite step and the sales assistants can’t haggle. The only one that was up for a haggle is the owner Gary (i think). They also get really busy on the weekends and it’s hard to get someone to help you with what you need.

They have a pretty good clearance section that always has good stuff in it for 40% off. so it’s worth a look.

STM - 5 out of 5 snowboards

Review:

STM has been my local shred shop ever since I started snowboarding. I bought my first beanie from there, my first goggles, outerwear, snowboard, bindings, and boots etc. I always loved going in there and chatting about snowboarding, surfing, and whatever else. These guys put customer service as their top priority and they really look after their customers.

The guy who sold me my first snowboard setup worked there for years. I met him for the first time when he was boot fitting me. We ended up becoming good mates, did snow trips together etc. 10 years down the track I was the best man at his wedding and the friends I made through the store continue to be some of my closest friends today.

I went on to work at the store for several years (about nine years at last count) and they not only treated me well and looked after me, but they gave me every opportunity to succeed in the industry, even if that meant they had to sacrifice something. STM is a family run business and the Morgans who own/run the store are such good people. They treat their customers like friends and their staff like family. That’s truly what it feels like to be a part of the STM crew. That’s why I continue to support the store however I can. I wouldn’t have enjoyed snowboarding as much as I did, nor would I have been able to start Boardworld without them. They always had my back, as a customer and a staff member.

Still, I love dropping into the store to see what’s new. It’s always great chatting to the guys or chilling out and watching a DVD on the TV. Just thought I’d give props to the store that’s given me so much over the years. Great store indeed.

should stores get a lower rating if the sales assistants won’t haggle? c’mon, it’s not a flea market!

One Track Mind: 4.5 out of 5 snowboard

Pros:
Great staff, offer free waxing / tuning card when you buy gear, never tried a boot fitting fee when I was buying boots (I bought them there anyway) Great range and good end of season deals.

Cons: Small range of Bindings (Only 3-4 brands) and reluctant to budge on prices (though it’s Australia and not many places will).

I tend to stay away from the local stores in Canberra… they rarely have any good specials. I usually wait until I am visiting Jindabyne and go to Cherri Pow, or Cooma and go for Rhythm.

Cherri Cherri Pow Pow has been my store of choice though, 4 out of 5 snowboards!

Great customer service, great knowledge and a good product range. Not as big as some of the other stores, but they do a great job smile They often have specials such as 50% off last seasons outerwear and around 30-40% boards. I got my board from there for 40% off, I bought it over the phone and the awesome chick on the phone offered to have her husband bring it to Canberra for me! How good is that! I would definitely say they are my store of choice shaka

Actually I’ll give a shout out to Auski in Melbourne. I got a really good deal from them on previous seasons bindings and postage is included so was very happy with them. 5 out of 5 snowboards!

Balmoral Boards: 4.5 out of 5 boards.

All the guys there that I have dealt with have been really good, know there stuff and are usually up for a chat, it’s the one place I would actually choose to spend my money in store rather than online and have bought a snowboard and some outerwear from there and do tend to drop my boards off there for tuning waxing when I’m lazy.  Why not 5 out of 5?  I struggle to give anything a perfect score in anything in life, a perfect score implies there isn’t one single thing that could have been improved upon and generally speaking humans aren’t capable of that.

I have had average to shit experiences with other stores, STM Bondi and ESS Parramatta were both pretty average IMO, got the whole too cool for school vibe from the assistants there.  A couple of the Jindy stores were terrible but First Tracks was actually pretty good from memory, bought some boots there.

Honourable mention to RPS in Elwood in Melbourne, been over 12 months since I have been there but they were always great, as a result I bought a board and bindings in there amongst other bits and pieces.

As I have mentioned in other posts I don’t want the industry to go down the toilet but IMO some stores deserve to go out of business due to shitty service.
