That’s a great reel, fmf. There’s some awesome shots in there.

+1 to that. the backhand barrel at 1:26 is the best bit of surf reel i’ve seen in a while… totally awesome angle!

Cheers for the tips Spaz,

I have a bit of RC experience but I know I’ll be crashing it a lot.

Apparently running a 700E and good batteries with a 7D, tokina 11-16, DSLR mount + counterweight, video transmitters etc should give about 20mins flight time according to some of the RC forums I’ve trawled. The guys in that edit were shooting with that setup last year, have a look at some of the behind the scenes (Link below for the Jessi Wells Edit) but I read somewhere they runn 700E with larger then stock blades.

Given that a 700 might or might not be enough, do you recommend getting a 450 or 600 size t-rex clone to build and break a few times until I pony up for the real deal? Or will the smaller craft mean I still have a big learning curve when I go large?

Check their facebook page - Copterkids now have their heli with retractable landing gear, mounting a RED camera, insane!
