Power Ballads

Avatar

Mini Shred has her iPod cranking most of the time and has started hitting us up for tunes beyond the Wiggles and other ABC classics.
Turns out at the ripe old age of nine, she is a lover of Power Ballads, mostly from the 80’s and 90’s LOL

Whats your favourite Power Ballad, we know everyone loves them, even if they won’t admit it.  red face

Good question.  I’ve recently made up some CDs for the kids to play in the car to introduce them to a lot of different stuff.  I’ll post up the list of tracks soon.  A few golden oldies from the top of my head your daughter may like if she’s into that sort of thing:

What’s Going On - 4 Non Blondes
99 Red Balloons - Nina
Tomorrow Wendy - Concrete Blonde
Africa or Rosanna - Toto

Of the CDs I’ve made so far, by far the favourite for both my kids is the punk one, which features The Ramones, NOFX, Millencollin and Modern Lovers (proto-punk).  Of these, they love Story of My Life (Millencollin) best with Ramones a close second.

I’d be really keen for some track suggestions for genres other than punk and indie/alternative, maybe some hip-hop (kid-suitable), electronic (not my thing, but let the kids make their own minds up) and any others.

LOVE Teenage Fanclub! They totally killed at the 1994 Big Day Out!

Hey Azz, Teenage Fanclub’s legendary ‘Bandwagonesque’ album has some awesome songs which may kinda qualify as power ballads. My pick would be ‘Star Sign’.

As far as power ballads go - you can’t beat the oldies.

. . . and, of course

Yes, kids, this is where ‘that song from Glee’ came from. I still have the original vinyl 7” single around here somewhere.

After Journey, Steve Perry did this one:

Kids love ska - Bad Manners have done some awesome kid-friendly covers.
