Hello and welcome,
is this your first setup?
I rode the Bataleon Airobic in a 151 for about 3 seasons. The Bataleon is marketed as a jib/park board super soft flex, catch free TBT base. I found it to be a great progressive board. I wished that it was my first board and I think my riding would have progressed a lot quicker if I had started on a super flexi jib board, compared to the Burton Motion 157 I had (Directional, stiff and too long). It gave me lots of confidence on rails and butters, but believe me it will still catch an edge if you try hard enough. I rode this board everywhere, forgiving in the bumps, great on groomers and pow but shits itself at speed through crud and chopped up pow. Depending on how much experience you have on other boards it will feel weird at first riding TBT compared to regular camber and rockered boards. Also once you progress onto a higher end board this will still be great for hitting rails and boxes. The only con I found was the durability, extruded base wears much quicker than a sintered base, therefore the board won’t have as much life after 2 seasons it required a base grind, little cracks started appearing in the edges (didn’t effect performance) but that’s normal wear and tear - OK normal for an abused board.

I weigh about the same as you but am only 171cm tall size 8 boot. I’d go for the Airobic 151 or 154 you don’t need a wide board unless you have huge profile boots. 151 might be too narrow (250mm at the waist) for your boots. I matched it up with Flux RK30 binders.

Don’t know much about the Manic, but I currently ride a Ride DH2,  good quality brand of boards have not had any problems with delam, inserts, cracked edges or anything.

Can’t comment on the other gear.

What level riding are you? Can you link turns? Carve on edge? What style do you do most/want to do most? freeride or park?

From those we can better give you a board size and type of board for you. At the moment you’re looking at boards between 153cm (for a jibbing board) and 159cm for freeride.

5150 are only good bindings for beginners, but you’re still better off paying a bit more and getting some bindings that will last you longer/into a better ability level.

The ride manic is a slightly stiffer board, made for all mountain but it’s also directional and has a setback stance, so not that great if you’re wanting to do some switch riding for park.

The airobic is a jib/flat land board. My mate has this board, it’s pretty soft and twin tipped. It’s a pretty specific board but it will still ride fine and be good for a beginner as it will flex easy. I wouldn’t suggest this for anyone progressing beyond beginner as the flex isn’t ideal for progression into strong edged turns. I’d really only recommend it for someone who jibs

I think the M3 Talon are boots, no? I have no idea about their boots, but the company certainly isn’t as good as others recently. I’d suggest looking into bigger name brands as you can be sure of the quality and last of the boots, unlike M3 - while their boots my fit well, unless you’re willing to take the risk or think they are made well, it’s hard to know when they will fall apart.

Keeping on the lines of Ride and Bataleon, at the moment I’d suggest you look at the Ride Agenda (or Crush if you prefer something a bit softer).
The bataleon “the jam” for a mid flex board and “whatever” for a softer flex.

And also, it seems no thread should go by without suggesting the YES basic. I haven’t ridden it, but I’ve never seen one negative review for it as a beginner or intermediate-advanced board.

id say i would be indemediate, i can link turn and carve on edge, after more freeride style.
do you know anything about the forum contract?

Welcome to Boardworld, cam388. cool smile

Are you riding in Australia mainly? Plans to ride overseas? You can usually get away with a smaller board in Australia.

I’d personally be looking at something around the 152 to 154 mark as a versatile size, depending on where you’re riding and your personal preference. I weigh 67kg and I ride around the 153 to 155 mark overseas, and 150 to 152 in Australia.

Have a read of this article I wrote on camber profiles. It might help you understand the different camber profiles on the market. It might help you narrow down your choices. https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/4119/

I’ll second SamNZ’s suggestion with the YES. Basic. You can’t go wrong with that board. One of the best value, most versatile boards on the market.

thanks guys! your really helping!
for now ill only be in australia, who deals ‘YES’ in aus?

Quite a few stores stock YES. Where do you live?

Either way, most stores do free shipping now anyway.

I know STM (http://www.stmonline.com) has them in nearly all sizes. I’d steer you towards the 152. The board retails at $650. They said they will give you a 15% discount as you are a Boardworld member. Let me know if you’re interested and I can put you in touch.

It will be free shipping to Vic, NSW, and QLD. $15 to SA and WA.

i live in wollongong, bout half hour south of sydney

any comments on the forum conract or honey pot??

The Contract is an urban jib board. Good board but I don’t think it’s what you’re looking for. The Honey Pot is a park board, more versatile than the Contract. Can’t say I’ve ridden either of these boards so I can’t really comment on experience.

Yeah I’ve never ridden either but as rider says, the Contract is urban jib so probably not what you’ll be wanting, but the Honeypot sounds like something that can get round everywhere (despite being pitched as park orientated) and performs well as a lower cost board - from what I read it sounds like a possible option. Based on the intermediate / freeride aspect I’m still suggesting the Bataleon Whatever in about a 156, or 54 if you think you’ll want to take it into the park often.

awesome, thanks heaps guys
