Dear Riders down-under,
Since the season is dying in Europe, and yours is rapidly approaching, I have a quick bit of info for you. I decided to learn how to code for a challenge and some fun and collaborating with the guys over at Head Snowboards and some European riders, including Olympic Snowboarder Dan Wakeham I made a snowboarding iPhone/iPad app. I am really interesting in hearing your feedback.
To my shock, it has been a big success in the UK and was put on the iTunes App homepage next to paypal etc as an Apple “Staff Favorites” pick which I was totally surprised and stoked about.
The blurb about the app is below, which I think (hope) sums it up quite nicely:
“In huge detail, we lay out how to stomp over 50 of the sickest snowboard tricks out there, including respect ratings, illustrations and expert tips. The app also includes essential information such as board maintenance, snowboard terminology, mounting bindings, waxing, and choosing your ride!
In addition, we bring you our infamous ‘‘grab indicator’‘, now in pocket-sized format and ready to take to the mountain with you. The indicator shows how and where to grab your board, so you can dial in on those essential grabs and move your riding up a few notches.”
There are a bunch of other features too. I would really love to hear your feedback on the app, so I can continue to make it better!!
You can find it in iTunes at ustomp.co.uk/app or search snowboard trick in the appstore.
Here are some free download codes for the first 2 of you to get the app:
TJM6LLTTXMW6
XK99XM7XFPAH
To redeem, to the AppStore, click featured and then new and scroll to the bottom and click redeem. I only get a few promo codes from Apple and these are the VERY last!
Thanks very much in advance for any ideas, feedback or suggestions you have. I hope to make the app as good as it can be.
Cheers
Sam
IGNORE - double post. See below!
Hi guys,
Really sorry to double post, but just wanted to remind you we are really keen to hear your feedback.
We take your feedback extremely seriously and have been very happy with the way our Australian userbase has grown to almost our second largest. Therefore your opinions matter even more than normal.
Some features we added based on other feedback from forums have been: video tutorials, retailer discounts, freestyle locations and more grabs… So it shows we really take feedback seriously and actually act on it.
Excited to hear your views - happy riding
Sam
I like what I have seen so far, but I have an iTouch 2 Gen firmware 4.21 and can’t install it because the firmware required is higher.
For such a basic app I don’t understand why such a high firmware is needed but I can’t even mod my ipod to allow it to install. I’ve tried.
If I could install it I would give you a real review.
expired =(
Hey guys,
Yeah, the download codes get used up really fast and I only get a limited number, which is a shame.
As for the firmware, I agree, it should be possible to run it on a lower version of iOS, I will need to investigate this for you. Thank you very much for the heads up, I really appreciate it.
As a FYI - the next version will also feature a random trick selector, so you can use it to play trick H.O.R.S.E. with your friends or something alike.
I’ll investigate the iOS version issue immediately.
happy riding
Sam
Hi All,
Quick update for you.
The app has had some major improvements added to it, including more video, a random trick generator and most recently a speedometer and altimeter function. It was also featured as Method Mag’s product of the week, and they review it, so for a more impartial viewpoint you should check out:

As before, still very keen to hear your views and the Aussie viewpoint of what would make this app better. Keep the PM’s coming and thanks again
Sam
Is it coming to Android phones?
oooh respect ratings? How many points do I get for a no grab 270 to edge catch head slam snow in goggles and up the back (natural powder hit)?
It’s a pity it’s for iOS 5 and higher only. That’s a huge number of customers it stops you reaching - Snowboarders and people on this side of the world really don’t care enough to upgrade their phones or loose the jailbroken benefits to upgrade their phone/version.
I’d be keen as a keen guy to check it out if I could use it, but nope. No love unless I want to spend a couple hundred bucks upgrading.
Hi guys,
Thank you for the feedback, great to know…
1) As for Android, I would love to bring it to that platform, but I currently lack the skillset to do so. I would need to partner up with someone to do it. I am looking into the logistics of doing this, as there has been HUGE Android demand.
2) Agreed on the iOS 5 requirement. I am fairly certain there is nothing in the App that requires an OS above 3.0, however, the default option is to serve iOS 5. I need to also look into lowering the requirement so riders with other OS’s can get involved. This has also been mentioned once or twice before!
P.s. Gamblor, I know that Tomahawk through Powder feeling all too well…
Keep it coming guys/girls, it really does make a huge difference to the App.
Cheers
Sam
This is how i feel after reading through your app description.
I’m getting my old iphone out to buy it right now.
Really sad, You app isn’t supported by iphone 3…
Thank you for the feedback. Based on your information, I looked into this and have now made the App available for devices running iOS 4.0 or above. Previously it was only for iOS 5.0 or above. So now you should be all set!!
On top of this, the altimeter and speedometer have been tweaked and improved and the Underflip graphics also enhanced.
The changes have been submitted to Apple and will take ~1 week to process. So please check back in 1 weeks time and you should be able to download the App.
I greatly appreciate your feedback and ideas to improve the product.
Happy riding and keep me posted with your views please!
Sam
Hey sam, I downloaded the app and had a look through. And here a few things I’d like to point out:
You have the feature called Game Of Skier. I highly recommend changing this as you are selling it as a snowboard app. I’d say change it to a game of SKATE, SHRED, or even just SNOW.
When listed your grabs you have Tindy as more Stars than Indy. Tindy is definatly not rated as a “quality grab”
