Has GoPro taken a dive?????

Avatar

Most other cameras in this market only need a housing for shooting underwater. Or in the surf were big pressure is forced upon random surfaces.
they are waterproof without the housing.

But the housing is still an extra cost to the consumer!!!!!

So is the lens??

But others don’t need a secondary component (the lens) replaced just so it can see clearly. For a camera - that should be it’s primary objective. “it can go 60meters underwater, Yipee”

The drift housing is $10 dearer than the component GoPro expects us to pay for!
The surface of the flat lens will also improve the problem of snow ruining your shot by it getting stuck in the GoPro lens ridge. A common complaint.

You made the statement that ya have to pay an extra $50 for it!!!!!

If you want something like the DRIFT to go underwater, ya also have to pay extra for it!!!!! Surely this housing is a “secondary component”?????

For normal use anywhere other than underwater, the GoPro’s standard housing does a great job!!!!! If ya really want that little extra clarity from ya GoPro, then ya buy this lens!!!!! If ya don’t, then keep ya money in ya pocket and still enjoy a camera that can go into the surf!!!!! Easy!!!!!

Yep housing is secondary on other camera’s because the other camera’s only need a housing to surf or dive with, they do everything else without the need of secondary components. Why Does gopro need a housing in out of water situations?

“A little extra clarity” big surprise

Is the irony lost on you - To use a waterproof housing underwater you have to pay extra question
This is typical of GoPro - the irony.

Oh the WiFi set up has been put back to “summer 2012”
Meaning your WiFi capable headcam is still not WiFi capable, 6months on…. waiting, waiting.

GoPro uses the housing as a standard go anywhere do anything setup!!!!! The reason why it outsells cameras like DRIFT!!!!!

I think maybe the irony is lost on you, as when you buy a “sports” camera in Australia you would think that it was made to go into the surf without paying extra for a housing!!!!!

Once again this is more typical of your hatred toward GoPro!!!!!

Like I stated previously, I don’t use a remote so there’s no reason for me to wait for anything!!!!!

the standard gopro housing works underwater for filming, but for closeup stuff of corals, fish etc the min focal distance is about 40cm. if you go closer than this due the convex nature of the current housing the image cannot get focus. the flat type lens cover addresses this for SERIOUS underwater filming. for your average surf shots of fins in a wave from underneath etc…. this lens will not really be needed.

I know this because i researched it 2 years ago after i tried it out in my fishtank! trying to see the fish any closer than 40cm and it was all blurry…past that was sweet as! at that time 3rd party sellers were offering flat lens mods but with no warranty if it malfunctioned underwater. the gopro model obviously supercedes these, and for divers (who drop some mighty coin on gear) $50 aint much, they would spend many times more than this on lighting rigs!

Why Does gopro need a housing in out of water situations?

it doesn’t, but if you want to protect to get the best life out of it when your doing heavy duty stuff, then it’s a good idea to use it wink

like if i wanted to go out in the surf with my DSLR… housing or no housing? snowboarding - dont need it, but it would be nice to protect it when you slam, right?

GoPRO or GoHOME hahahahahaha

Mizu, I do not hate GoPro. it’s posts like yours that tell readers I hate GoPro that perpetuate such missguidence.

I told Jez to buy GoPro, I’ve suggested to many others the same. Including my closests friends. You and I have spoken on the benefits of the Hero.

So why do you insist on making slanderous remarks in regard to my feelings on this brand. If I truly hated GoPro I would just ignore it. I personally contributed to marketing GoPro in the push to make it the highest selling headcam in the world. I KNOW EXACTLY WHY IT SELLS.

You should remain armature and continue using amateurs equipment. Leave professional advice to professionals.

I am entitled to my opinion no matter what you think!!!!!

I am also entitled to defend myself when attacked, and will do so every time!!!!! But I will also base it on fact not fiction!!!!!

I will use whatever product I so choose to use and will always give an unbiased opinion when able to give one to the best of my knowledge!!!!!

I also have never misguided readers whatsoever!!!!! You yourself used an avatar that made the statement “GoPro The Worlds Most Overrated Camera”?????

You use the terms GoPoo and Sheeple, and constantly make the claim that GoPro is not up to par with its competition in regards to image quality!!!!!

And then you tell me that I have given readers the idea that you hate GoPro!!!!! You’ve managed that one on ya own quite well imho!!!!!
