I’m with Telstra. We pay around $89 a month for 100GB usage and my local calls are free. My download speed ranges from 800-1500kb/s. But it’s Telstra. So theres always stupid problems.
Unfortunately for you, you are in NT, Internet options are never going to be as good or as cheap as NSW / VIC / QLD / ACT. Perth, Adelaide, Darwin and Hobart are all too small populations to get good deals yet. NBN might change that though.
In our situation, would there be any benefit in getting a separate modem and router? It’s the setup we’ve previously had so I have no problems with it. I just thought an all-in-one might be easier.
So Michelle’s computer will be able to connect to the wireless N?
It will work. The benefits of separate devices probably wouldn’t change anything you would normally notice.
yeh her computer will still connect, but your macbook will just have a stronger connection to the net then her laptop
optus at work phone/internet $109 p/m free calls except international 500Gig of downloads HOOAH!!
iinet naked dsl at home $69 p/m free local/national calls 100Gig (50 peak/50 off peak)
i have a wireless modem router, but also a network router in computer room (2-3 puters connected)
Hey guys,
Looks like they’ve almost finished installing our internet and changing over the phone line. Currently looking at wireless all-in-one modems to buy.
Firstly, TPG have this one from NetComm available for $100: http://www.tpg.com.au/products_services/adsl_equipment.php
drc13, I’ve also found the Billion you suggested for approx $150. From Cnet:
If you don’t care about gigabit Ethernet and can’t justify the dollars to upgrade to the higher level 7800N, or even if you just want to mess with IPv6, the 7800NL could be for you.
What are we missing out on with this unit? I’m guess we don’t need it but curious anyway.
There’s also this one from D-link: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/d-link-wireless-n-adsl2-modem-router.html
Which one would you guys recommend? I’m guessing the Billion? Should I just grab that one?
Thanks for all your help!
Hi mate
If you are set on the all-in-one definitely go the billion over the netcomm or d-link it’s not even close!
From your earlier description if you want to save some coin the 7800nl is plenty for you and you probably won’t take advantage of the 7800n features (gigabit lan and EWAN are the main diffrences)
Having said that $150 is a bit pricey you should be able to get it a fair bit cheaper elsewhere. have a browse through some sites here
http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=7800nl&spos=3
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Love the first one on that site!!!!!
It’s a deal for for new TPG customers!!!!!

Haha yeah they work on a referral based system. The MSY one for $113 is probably the first Sydney based one worth looking at.
I can’t recommend an exact model, but I’ve been using Belkin routers for years and years and had no problems so I can highly recommend them.

Very serious. Every Belkin router I’ve used has been prefect for me.
I had one Belkin modem and it didn’t work from day one!!!!!
When I took it back, the sales guy admitted that they get heaps back!!!!!
Yeah they are pretty much known as one of the worst brands you can get.
Fortunately for static he has been very lucky!!
Ours is a Belkin and never had a problem, either!
Thanks for your help, DRC. I’ll grab the Billion 7800nl. Cheers!
