Hey all
I’m looking at buying my first board, I’m an intermediate rider, mostly just cruising slopes and beginning park, look at getting into a bit more park riding. I have looked at a few boards.. Burton prime, flow merc, flow era and flow verve.
Has anyone riden any of these boards or have any thoughts on them?
if you think there is any other boards that would be better for me im open to suggestions.
Thanks
if you’re an intermediate rider, then the burton prime is not for you. I looked it up and it’s a beginner board. Have a look at the YES basic or the Burton process
Hey Bozo, welcome to Boardworld.
I’ll second Gamblor’s opinion. Those would definitely be two boards worth checking out. The YES. Basic has been really popular amongst Boardworld members. You could also look at something like the Burton Custom or Burton Custom Flying V. Both really versatile boards; you really can’t go wrong with the Custom.
I’d also suggest you read my article on camber profiles. Let us know which camber profile(s) appeal to you and we can help you narrow it down. Article here: https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/4119/
Hey Bozo,
A lot of people here will recommend the YES Basic (See above!) I imagine. They’ve all test ridden it and I don’t think I’ve seen one thread where it doesn’t get suggested! It sounds like a pretty good option, I can’t really say I’ve ever heard negative things about it.
I haven’t ridden any of those boards but I can tell you this:
Flow Verve (2012) has a relatively softer flex and is for beginner-intermediate park as well as freeriding. It is consistently one of Flows well performing boards. Out of the options you listed, I’d choose this one.
Flow Era is more of a soft forgiving beginners board or a board for those transitioning into park. I haven’t looked at the price but I imagine it would be a nice cheapish board for someone learning park that may be liable to do some damage? It doesn’t sound like a bad option.
Flow Merc (2013) is an all mountain freestyle, so unlike the other two the stance is set back (you will have a longer nose than tail). It’s a lower end budget board, but probably safer to steer clear due to your freeride level.
Burton Prime. Apart from being Burton? Uh. It’s not the worst option, It’s a beginner-intermediate board. I can’t find much reliable info on it really.
Do you know if you’re more interested in jibbing or jumps? Also, what board and bindings are you currently riding?
If you haven’t tried a rocker board or some variation of I highly recommend having a go, I went from a camber to a rocker and it helped my riding a hell of a lot. Something true twin would be a good idea if you’re wanting to get into the park more. From other discussions on Flow boards they were said to be quite heavy and unresponsive and at the budget end of the scale but Scotty Lago seems to do ok on them so that may be a thing of the past.
