Insoles discussion

Hey that’s not bad.  I take it they heat-mold them in the shop, or am I thinking of orthotics?

The Remind you have to order it online, not sure if local shops carry them. Superfeet are usually sold in the stores though.

i have drop in insoles that crap all over the squishy burton ones and they made a hell of a difference but i still need to get custom footbeds made up due to my high arch and shape of my foot so hopefully this season will be more comfortable

I tried Sole footbeds this year after 8 years on custom insoles. I was pretty impressed.
These ones:

I have a high instep & high arch (are they the same thing?) and these molded to my foot pretty well. Absolutely no footpain all year. If I use the Burton insoles then I get sore toes from my feet getting mashed up front.

We are probably going to be stocking Remind Insoles on the Boardworld online store as soon as the store launches.

how do I go about getting those, then? It might be worth looking into before we do the whole nthn hemi season and I’m riding every day. Are remind the ones that Travis Rice is spruiking at the moment?

I think I might actually be an under-pronator. (The opposite of pronation is supination but I’m not sure if it applies in this instance?)
My shoe soles wear out first on the lateral side of the sole.

When I haven’t ridden much I always get a fair amount of pain in my feet, but I’ve just learnt to ignore it and eventually it goes away when I’m riding a lot. I have stupid, sticky outy ankle bones as well which make heel lift a problem, but the northwave boots I have at the moment are the best I’ve had by a country mile, in minimising it. Most of the time if I have my boots tight enough to stop the heel lift entirely, then I get pain in other parts of my foot.

Go to a reputable snowboard store and ask them about custom footbeds. Most good stores can make them for you. They usually cost around the $150 - $200 mark. I know they seem expensive but it’s some of the best money you’ll ever spend on snowboarding equipment, especially if you already have a need for orthotics. Not only will they make your feet a lot more comfortable, you will get better performance out of your setup (less slipping in your boot, better control, increased board feel).

Thanks for that info. Yeah I figured they’d be around that price, as they would be similar to an orthotic. I haven’t had to pay much for any orthotics I’ve had yet, thanks to having had private health cover.

so what do Remind and the like do?
You buy them, take the sole out of your snowboard boot, stick them in instead & they gradually mold to a shape that fits and supports your foot in the right areas?

They just have more support and cushioning than the regular sole out of your boot.

the sole ones can be heat molded in an oven or they just take a day and a half of riding to mold to your foot. The first day wasn’t painful either.

The footbeds which come with snowboard boots are essentially flat, with no arch support whatsoever. Pull one out and see for yourself. I can flatten the ‘arch support’ area with my pinky finger. I often show people that when buying boots to show the importance of after-market footbeds.

cords, after-market footbeds like Remind offer much better arch support straight out fo the box. The advantage of custom molded footbeds is they are a mirror image of your foot. Remind Insoles have a memory foam-type material which gives you more of a custom fit. They aren’t necessarily a mirror image of your sole like custom molded footbeds, but they still offer good support and they are significantly cheaper.

yeah ok - it is as I thought then. I’ll look into getting one or the other at some point. Cheers for the info.

What if you’ve got fairly flat arches?  Would there be any advantage over the standard issue boot insole?

Avatar

yes
the standard boot ones are pretty much useless..even in high end boots

the after market insoles gives you support no matter your arch profile….just buy a lower profile arch insole
