Insoles discussion

Avatar

How many of you guys here use insoles in your snowboard boots?

I used to not use any insoles but once I tried them, it made a huge difference. Feet were not getting tired as fast and my arch felt really supported. First insoles I use are ShredSoles which I don’t really like because they cant their insoles 4 degrees, and that makes my knee hurt especially on the lateral side. Now I’m using Remind Insoles and they’re really great. No cants whatsoever, real comfy and supportive.

I’ve always used custom footbeds and I rate them highly. I’m really keen to try Remind Insoles as I have heard great things about them.

Where can one get these insoles?

what is the difference between these and orthotics?

Insoles are the removable soles in your boot… so your boots come with them. I think Skip means buying and using different ones that don’t come with the boots; not suggesting some people don’t ride without insoles?

The benefit is that you can buy one to match your foot a bit better, i.e. if you have high arches or flat foot

Orthotics are custom made to your foot, which means they should be better overall as they encompass everything your foot needs for support. However they do come at a higher price.

I used to ride with Orthotics in my old boots but they never felt better and often I had problems with my toes going numb. I’ve used them in various boots but gave up last season and stuck with the stock soles in the boot. It’s been suggested they were made wrong, but this store was really knowledgeable and professional. I might look into it again in future when money isn’t so tight.

Never used any, just stuck my feet in my boots and wore them. I think i got lucky and got comfy as a motherf**ker boots that dont give me any pain.

I feel I need the extra arch support, mainly in my right foot. My left isn’t so bad but after hurting my knee, my right ankle rolls in and when I twist it, it cracks :( I found have an insole helps that. Hopefully someone can recommened where to buy some?

I have orthotics but haven’t used them in my snowboard boots because I don’t know how to make them fit. I wear my orthotics 90% of the time and when I don’t, I’m rolling my ankles all the time within a week and my feet are in pain within a day. I can’t even walk around in bare feet for a whole day!

Blizz every snowboard shop sells insoles. A popular brand is super feet, different colours represent different purposes the orange is for snow. Outside of snow shops most outdoor stores sell them, however don’t usually have the ones for snowboard boots.

I just noticed today when putting in new Remind insoles that my new Driver X doesn’t have the default insoles, weird. So I’ve been riding the past 3 times without any insoles lol.

If you wear orthotics you should definitely use after-market footbeds or preferably custom molded footbeds in your snowboard boots. I’m guessing you wear orthotics because your feet pronate. Snowboarding puts a lot more stress through your feet and knees than walking etc., so you should really have support in your boots.

I wouldn’t suggest using your corrective orthotics in your snowboard boots. I have been told this by more than one podiatrist and other boot fitting experts. This is because most orthotics are too hard and rigid, therefor they can do damage when used in high impact sports like snowboarding.

how do I go about getting those, then? It might be worth looking into before we do the whole nthn hemi season and I’m riding every day. Are remind the ones that Travis Rice is spruiking at the moment?

I think I might actually be an under-pronator. (The opposite of pronation is supination but I’m not sure if it applies in this instance?)
My shoe soles wear out first on the lateral side of the sole.

When I haven’t ridden much I always get a fair amount of pain in my feet, but I’ve just learnt to ignore it and eventually it goes away when I’m riding a lot. I have stupid, sticky outy ankle bones as well which make heel lift a problem, but the northwave boots I have at the moment are the best I’ve had by a country mile, in minimising it. Most of the time if I have my boots tight enough to stop the heel lift entirely, then I get pain in other parts of my foot.

@cords: Yes, Remind insoles are the one Travis are using and I think lots of skateboarders also uses them (and snowboarders of course).

There are 2 models. The cush (the less supportive one) I think it’s around 20 or 25 bucks and the remedy is around 40 bucks. Not too expensive.
