There are some fully integrated programs that do everything virtually the same as itunes (so I’ve been told). MyMusic is one I think?
Yeah android definitely brings things out to the public faster, but if you’re jailbroken and use Cydia (unofficial app store for jailbroken iPhones) you can usually find what you want.
I probably over stated that a lot - as I don’t really see the point of some things like widgets for a phone. I’m unsure if the new iPhones can do that. But no doubt there are some similar jailbreak tweaks. Generally the problem is sifting through the junk trying to find what you want.I never really got onto the android buzz. It just feels like a ‘lite’ and incomplete OS to me (which it kinda is). There’s a reason iPhones are so popular. The OS is great. But as with Macs - when you look at the price you pay for the actual hardware, other phones/computers are superior.
Yes but once again why should you need to use a program to do very basic tasks?
I personally use widgets all the time on my phone (and even more on my tablet) I love that I don’t have to open an app to view my data it’s all there as soon as I unlock my phone. I have a fully interactive calendar/schedule, constantly updating weather, twitter/facebook/gmail feeds and I can control my music/podcasts with one widget that’s on my screen.
Doesn’t the fact that you need to jailbreak (which apple does their best to break every update and technically voids your warranty) and sift through the crap on cydia in an attempt to get features android has in it’s stock form completely counteract your “lite/incomplete OS” statement?
I wouldn’t agree IOS is that great, it’s incredibly basic and dated! I’d say the reason iPhones are popular is because they were many peoples first exposure to smart phones and non technical people are just too scared of any change so get stuck in the iPhone product cycle (I’ve never said Apple aren’t marketing geniuses).
Often I see iPhone users try an android phone and get completely freaked out as it doesn’t look exactly like the iphone they have come from so they either spend time trying to turn it into an iPhone or give up and conclude that android sucks.
Mizu is a classical example of why Apple are so damned rich. Android is no harder than IOS it’s just different! Unfortunately people link familiarity with ease of use
Yet rarely do people that have truly put some time to get out of the IOS bubble go back to it.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not a complete apple hater. I think they have their strong points (multimedia editing on Macs probably has PC’s crushed due to a real solid set of software) and I’m really glad the original iPhone came out and introduced smartphones to the masses and in turn brought with it competition.
It’s important in the world of technology not to get pigeon holed into any one thing. From one product cycle to the next things change drastically. A couple of years ago I wouldn’t have touched an android phone with a 10ft pole and iPhones were clearly superior. In 6 months time windows 8 for tablets might be the best choice and if the iPhone 5 is clearly better than any android at the time I’d be willing to switch back to that. But at the moment it’s hard to argue for an iPhone 4s both in hardware and software.
Does anyone know if perisher is planning to bring out their App for Android?
No sign of anything yet. I hope it does though like there’s a million other GPS trackers but the official Perisher one would be nice!
Was using iPhone 3gs - after it was stolen I tried using non-smart phones but couldn’t hack it.
Pulled out my old and “well used” iPhone 3G. Man it’s a slow beast! But better than being non-smart.Been keeping my eye out for a cheap iPhone 3gs or 4, 4s.
Read an interesting article favouring 3gs over 4/s recently.I am Azz’s twin, love Mac since 1988 Willing to try another smart phone but don’t rate Android.

mate, just a warning - iPhone 3GS running the latest IOS is very slow.
Depends on how you set it up - what apps you leave running, if it’s trying to constantly connect to wifi… The list goes on.
Learning how to properly use an iPhone can dramatically change the experience you have with it. I’ve also found from phone to phone some can have gremlins.

I have and use an Android phone now!!!!! I can use it fine!!!!!
An iPhone isn’t that much more expensive than a Samsung for example, and I have only had a very limited experience with Apple Mac!!!!!
But what I have had is GOOD!!!!! With Microsoft os I have had nothin but experiences where I would like to put my head through the screen, both at home and still do at work!!!!!
And while my Android experience has been better than that of MS, I would still rather switch to iPhone because it will work seamlessly with my Mac!!!!!
I used to enjoy friggin around with MS based software/hardware but I am truly over that, and just want my technology to do what I purchased it for in the first place!!!!!
I happily admit that I am a convert and I really couldn’t give a crap how rich Apple get, cause they obviously deserve it!!!!!

That’s the whole point of android though “choice” (whether it’s hardware/apps/roms) you can make it as simple or as complicated as you want. 90% of the users are fine to use the stock roms (certainly no need to resort to anything)
Hm don’t think so, drc. To apply new ROMs you need to root your phone (settle, Mizu). According to Google this voids your warranty, so I think it’s fair to say applying new ROMs is in no way the point of Android. I would agree with you if you said the OS itself supports more flexibility in general. Anyway, I will quite likely go Android for my next phone, just to see for myself.

Im a iPhone user and have been for ages! I use my phone to ring, text, music and Internet and it does it all perfectly! Looking forward to the iPhone 5!!

I had a sony erricsson. You sure they weren’t the first with mp3??
At the time everyone I worked with could understand why I wanted a phone that did “everything”, they were happy having their phone and ipod separate….. I wouldn’t even have to think very hard to guess what they carry nowadays!

My first MP3 player was as big as a cd walkman and very heavy. A massive, for the time, 4GB - 1999. First on the market?? $700 Creativelabs.
Whichever co. Included mp3 in their phone late that year did it before apple launched ipod. I should’ve invested the $700 in apple shares.
BTW im using android right now, do often. Some things i liike, none have turned me from ios’s usability.
My first mp3 player was a MiniDisk - hahaha!!!
Its still here…. I should use it for my car!
Sometimes the fact that my music player is my phone in the car does my head in!
