OMGz fanbois are everywhere. I read somewhere that this “fragmentation” (having lots of little code branches in Android to support different hardware) is driving developers away from it. Will be interesting to see how this continues to pan out.
To counter that though I love the fact that there is a massive 3rd party rom community (xda forums anyone?) I haven’t been running a stock samsung rom on my phone since about 2 weeks of owning it. To be fair though ICS isn’t great on the GS2 at the moment it’s not a disaster but I prefer the very mature gingerbread based custom roms.
My fanboi mate can’t even send an SMS, and he didn’t even realise it for a few days! On the other hand, I’d really like to be able to just put a freakin file on my iPhone and read it without having to resort to tricks like emailing it to myself or jailbreaking. And yeah, iTunes….
i looked into it, a good mate makes his own roms etc. so when i go up to the goldy to see him im going to let him run riot on my sgs2

Think it’s safe to say your mate is doing it wrong
My main reasons for reverting back to gingerbread was they removed the broadcom bluetooth drivers meaning it couldn’t do RSAP with my cars bluetooth anymore. It also felt a little laggy but definitely no problems with SMS and you would think there’d be a major outcry if that was the case.
Yeah usb mass storage would be such an easy thing for apple to add which would remove one of the very big handicaps to the iphone

See what your mate recommends but in my experience checkrom revolution is the top contender (unless you want ICS as they haven’t moved over to that yet) it also lets you customise and change things via a built in app so you would be able to stay on top of it when you come home.

Yeah maybe, but he’s no n00b. He programs his own Arduino modules etc. Seems pretty ugly to have to resort to some hacked up ROMs to get your phone upgraded?

Will do mate, cheers!

That’s the whole point of android though “choice” (whether it’s hardware/apps/roms) you can make it as simple or as complicated as you want. 90% of the users are fine to use the stock roms (certainly no need to resort to anything)
But should you like to tinker with/customise your gadgets you have many options.
I’m on a Sony Ericsson something-or-other Android smartphone.
I love it because it has a touch screen, but a slide out qwerty keyboard for sms. WHYYYY have these disappeared? I love my phone too because of the slide out keyboard it is slightly chunky and I’ve dropped it a squillion times and its never cracked the screen or anything.
I am dreading getting a new phone as they are all frign touch screen only and so darn sensitive I have no idea how I’m going to msg properly on the stupid thing…and phones have gone back to being massive and taking up your whole pocket again. GAH!I hate the Iphone/ipod crap where you have to have itunes and can only sync with one computer. So annoying!
Drag and Drop all the way! So much easier.
I never want to get anything apple ever again.
Blackberry have a slide out Qwerty keyboard!!!
iTunes isn’t required to sync with iphones and idevices’s. There is other music software that does this also. (someone mentioned it was earlier in the thread)
Also MudHoney said earlier about file storage - there are also apps that you can use to store files on the iphone. iTunes allows you to upload/download files to it in the “sync apps” section. “Downloads Lite” is one. many PDF readers also allow this feature.
I hate apple computers with a passion but think ipods and iphones are great, mainly for the layout and simplicity. Jailbreak one and I can do everything on it you can do on your android. I have the Samsung rugby, but when I have the spare money I’ll upgrade to an iPhone - though I fear I will break it very quick.

Yeah there are alternative programs double twist and mediamonkey from memory etc but really you’re still jumping through hoops when you should be able to simply drag and drop.
I haven’t jail broken an iPhone since my 3gs but does it enable Widgets, notification leds, swype and flash support now?
I had an Android and loved it, then left my job and the new job gave me an iFail… so I’m stuck with it to save me $60 a month. It’s not that bad… but its definitely not good.
I got a 3gs that Ill sell ya for $100 once I get the new one through work if you are keen.
I got a HTC one x and hate it. Used it for three days before packing it back in the box and talking to Vodafone to get a different deal. Currently back to using my iPhone 4
Was using iPhone 3gs - after it was stolen I tried using non-smart phones but couldn’t hack it.
Pulled out my old and “well used” iPhone 3G. Man it’s a slow beast! But better than being non-smart.
Been keeping my eye out for a cheap iPhone 3gs or 4, 4s.
Read an interesting article favouring 3gs over 4/s recently.
I am Azz’s twin, love Mac since 1988 Willing to try another smart phone but don’t rate Android.
Anyone got a 3gs they are willing to sell me.

Depending on what happens with Vodafone today, I might have an iPhone 4 16gb in white to sell!
