It seems to me that there is a greater chance that you will spend $40 on an Chinese made hoody that is thin, poorly made and won’t last long. Or you can spend a bit more and hopefully get something that is half decent, having said that if you are super hard on Quality control Trent, then you should be able to get stuff made to a high standard over there. The first BW hoodies we got were crap…..anyone know where those hoodies were actually made? I think they were printed on in OZ at least?
I noticed boardworld are supporting this http://www.facebook.com/BUYSNOWBOARDSINAUSTRALIA.
It seems like a mixed message to me, how can you say buy foreign boards from Australian shops (ie support the local store industry but not the local manufacturing industry) the logical end conclusion from that reasoning is that you should also buy Australian owned and made boards and hardware, however they arent saying that i.e the message they put out is support the stores but don’t worry about brands like chemical storm etc
i agree with you to a degree but you cant really look at it that way, this days everything is made in china or god knows where even freaking LABELS CK or Diesel is made in china its how it is, just coz something is made in Australia or whatever country it quality can be shit where ever its made.
its hard to say anything about this as everyone is looking to cut costs and make money, that is why half of the Australia is exporting the industire off shores and really to worry about where he makes the hoodies really doesn’t bother me as long as the price is right, coz at the end of the day i am buying from him.
i think ppl like to fixate them selfs on smaller thing while the big things in the world is lot worse of.
can you provide difference in buying it made in aus and made in god knows where ?
to be honest i would love to buy Australian made but this days i feel very ripped off by all the businesses and product in Australia i am all for been fare and support local shops but if i am going to pay 50$ + more somewhere else for a hoodie just coz its Australian made forget it, we all need to save some money and god knows times aint easy any more.
i heard there will be TAX applied on breathing pollute air soon. ( that is me bee sarcastic)
I agree to some extent….why should you buy a burton board in Australia for $800 if you get the same board overseas for $500. There are no moral arguments about the place of manufacture in that scenario.
On a side note, Why do you say its aint easy any more? Australia has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world and is up there on quality of life? I reckon there must have been harder times in the past! Granted that doesn’t really help the individual if they are struggling but for as long as I can remember everyone has been saying how hard times are…....
i guess the reason i am saying it aint easy any more is based on how many ppl are loosing jobs lately and we get taxed on everything, the other day i was reading somewhere that Sydney is more expansive to live then in New York and its in top 10 most expansive cities to live. a
dont get me wrong we are very well off and we do have great benefits but compare to what it was say 5 years a go it has changed a lot, and just the other day this carbon tax come in and they saying that electricity bills will rise by $120 a month per house hold or something on those lines, so that is why i am saying it is not getting any easier to live and to have some savings.
i dunno this is just my view and i am sure others have different view on things.
Funnily enough, not ALL clothin is made in China as people seem to think!!!!!
A lot of companies get their product from factories in Fiji, Indonesia, India, and believe it or not they still get some from the US!!!!!
We had clothin made here in the Illawarra in the BONDS factory, until the CEO decided it would no longer be financially viable to her pocket and then moved production overseas in order to bolster her 7 Million dollar pay packet!!!!!
Labour costs in other countries can be a red herring, as for example the Korean car manufacturer Hyundai actually pay their work force better than the Ford/GM workers get paid here!!!!!
I work for a company that manufactures steel, and directly competes with business from China etc etc!!!!! If we weren’t on par, trust me when I say that we would not be here!!!!!
The Chinese government have put a lot of infrastructure into their manufacturing market in the way of massive factory cities, that employ local villagers in time when capacity is booming, then when throughput falls returns these workers back to their farms to be self sustainable as they had before!!!!! No welfare payments over there!!!!!
It’s great to see that ya are lookin into it, trent!!!!!
Sometimes higher priced items sell well, and ya only have to look at Brands like Lois Vitton, Rolls Royce etc etc!!!!! They have been around for the long haul so consumers don’t always go on price alone!!!!! Quality is a major factor!!!!!
Would you buy a Great Wall ute cause it’s 10 grand cheaper than it’s Japanese competitor?????

Ok thats fair enough. I was just wondering. Looks like water prices will increase as well thanks to the desal plant.
I remember everyone said that the GST would destroy us as well though and it made no difference at all.
GST gave the government more money to waste .......
your grandkids will be paying back the bill on the borrowing we are doing now :(
mizu i agree not all the clothing is made in china but MOST of it is.
exactly BONDS and that is something that i hate it and i wish government can put a stop to it, LETS FIRE 2000 WORKERS and move the work offshore but i will increase my pay to 7 million a year… and everyone is fine grrrrrr that pisses me off poor ppl that work they buts off to earn money to support family ah well who cares about them.

Mizu that was very poor example but i did not want to write a half a page post here i was been very blunt i guess.
but what i was trying to say i guess is that GST has made impact on imported stuff and price has been hgher then usual ..
can you explain then why is this
Japan alchol/smoker lot cheaper then aus
Croatia don’t even want to go here u can get Marlboro lights for like 4au dollars alcohol almost same as in USA
yeah thos are some basic things but yet we pay lot more then other country’s do. ?
my understanding of GST is increase tax revenue simple its just another layer of shit that ppl pay so goverment can make more money.
GST gave the government more money to waste .......

Australia actually isn’t in very much dept.
I don’t think there is any problem with the next generation paying back some debt as long as they get something out of it…i.e good train systems, roads and infrastructure. whether they will actually get any of that is another thing.
GST gave the government more money to waste .......

GST was brought in to stop tax cheats!!!!!
mate that did not help at all the only thing that gst did for cheats is made them even more richer.
I want quality over where or how cheap a product is.
None the less I will be supporting Buse no matter what! Your designs are the selling point, if it’s quality forget the low tag price or where it’s made.
Saying that look at GoPro - with the right marketing even poor quality will sell. But you need to be able to sell your soul with it.
IMO your soul is in the designs/artwork and the garment should reflect that. You have a chance to make this more than a “side project” a chance to fuel a dream. Your end goal is to finance snow adventures, through your talent. The ideal of staying Australian made is for start up, not mass production. If the product is going to retain it’s quality but be $20 cheaper go China!
Or look into buying materials and manufacturing. It worked for Billabong/Ripcurl/Mambo when they started out. Company’s like Table8 do fine manufacturing garments for top end stores and Target at the same time.
Success while staying a designer of artwork will come through using China (keeping it simple).
Expansion and remaining Australian Made is through purchasing offshore materials and machinery, investing lots in a warehouse lease and producing the product. This will tie up all your time in bookwork, marketing and purchasing and being a CEO. Or all your money in bankrolling it and paying someone to do the work for you.
To remain Australian Made will take a massive investment. And forget spending more than 1 weekend a season in the snow.
