Ski resorts slash prices to lure Aussies back

It’s about time they dropped prices. But they need to drop them further! Not exactly ‘slashing’ them IMO.

^^THIS^^

That article just seemed to be an advertisement for all the specials each resort has. Still way too expensive.

Well said!

I really think that the Govt doesn’t do much to help this situation either!!!!!

In every other sport they receive funding assistance from all levels of govt, yet for some strange reason when it comes to the snow sport industry, it has no probs chargin bed taxes, leasing land at exorbitant prices, and then on top chargin one of the most expensive entry fees for any event just to use an outdoor carpark!!!!! Plus ya might wanna add public liability insurance into the mix somewhere?????

Overseas resorts can compete easily against Australia mainly due to havin none or very little of these contributin to their base costs!!!!!

Think it was 7 when I was booking it.

The main reasons are:
Prices to buy tiny boards for the few people that would use them
Trying to teach the sideways balance and stopping on a board is much harder than pizza and french fries
Hiring staff for a ski creache and a snowboard creache doubles their staff and increases costs.

yeah all those are valid.  Also, imagine the poor little buggers trying to strap in at the top of each run!  It’s hard enough even finding gloves that go half way to fitting their little fingers.

I also suspect my daughter is afraid of sitting on the snow too much because her ski teacher told her there are snow cows hiding underneath!

“A five-day lift ticket, for example, will be cut from $482 to $424”

Still looks like a few hundred dollars too much to me. $60 difference isn’t really going to stop anyone choosing overseas over an Aussie resort.

i paid $330 for a season pass in Tahoe…

I think lift prices are crazy and places like Perisher should offer ‘section’ passes. Since they introduced the RFID system surely they could issue pass, much like a work pass, that restricts your access to one section. Have an all mountain pass or a Guthega/Blue Cow Pass, Perisher Pass and Smiggins Holes Pass.

Would draw more people up making it more affordable.

That’s crazy! My dream, once I’m good enough, is to go boarding in Japan. I’ve heard the snow there is absolutely amazing.

You don’t have to be fantastic to go boarding in Japan. The hills aren’t that hard and the snow is way better.

If you come to the shred, watch how quickly you improve… it is pretty inevitable when you ride with people who are better than yourself smile

lift tickets aside

the other thing keeping me from going more often to the snow fields in Australia is the accommodation
living 6 hours away means day trips ...are almost .. out of the question

i used to do day trips every time i went to the snow (5-6 hour drive) not hard when there was 4 of us to share the driving.

Try doing it twice a weekend every 2nd week. it gets easy. better sitting in traffic 2hrs a day.
