All I am saying is that it is worthwhile trying the half size to see if this alleviates a narrow fit, as there are companies that use this half size to have a wider option in the size denomination!!!!!
If you think that I have mislead anyone, that is your view but not mine!!!!!
I really wasn’t trying to upset you, but you basically said that half sizes only work in width, therefore if it is more length that may help a half size is useless, which isn’t true.
Thus the way in which you said it was misleading, I did not mean to imply that you were trying to mislead anyone. This is also in italics.
Lanox, I’ve heard of this problem before. It seems like your boot is cutting off the circulation in your foot. There is an artery on the outside of your foot. Yours may just happen to be awkwardly placed near the ankle bone and so some boots might constrict it, which causes pain. The most common and recommended way to deal with it is by getting a boot with a heat molded liner. You can also look into the Rome Folsom’s. They have memory foam around the ankle for custom fit - I can’t say for sure that is an option that will work, but it sounds promising, I once wanted these boots a few years ago but gave up as they were impossible to find at the time.
Basically true, but a bit misleading!
I might be wrong again, but there’s definitely no italics here!!!!!
And I’m definitely not upset!!!!! I use exclamation marks on a constant basis around here!!!!! < See!!!!!
Sam I was thinking of getting button hail any thoughts ???

Haha, never ask me about Burton! I am a huge hater!
Honestly though I did a bit of research just now on the Hails and I’d say no, here’s the reasons, without my prejudice towards Burton:
1. The SLX was Burton and it caused problems. Although it can and will vary from model to model, it may just be that Burton don’t provide the ankle fit you need.
2. I have seen reviews stating that the Hail has “super thick achilles grabber so they are hard to put on but in turn gives the best heel hold.” This, to me, suggests it might be rather tight and cause the same problems.
3. This was a bit odd, I was going to say they don’t seem to be heat moldable, but looking round more some sites specify they are, and some don’t say anything about it. One review says they are but not in the sense you might think, and leads me on to believe the molding is more for the footbed than the liner. Unsure on that. But either way, refer to point 2.
Of course this is what I have found from reading, if you have tried them on and feel they may be right for you, then that’s another story.
I really want to encourage you to try 32’s however. The toebox is wider and with the latest Lashed’s I’ve even found more room overall. They’re also one of the few brands you can order from overseas with no restrictions, saving you big bucks if they did turn out to be no better.
Also, keep in mind that my idea of why you’re experiencing pain my not even be correct, but it does seem to be a possible and probable cause.
I encourage you to find a boot that can be molded and ask them to do it for you before buying it - This should be no problem as even if you don’t buy the boot, it can still be molded to someone else. Keep in mind where the pain is when you wear the SLX and think about how that point feels in the new boot - it may not hurt or be uncomfortable but you should be able to get an idea for the way that boot feels on that area.
At the end of the day you may need a loose ankle boot and have to sacrifice a bit of heel lift for comfort.

Just to let ya know Sam, Boardworld has a policy that backs the local Australian industry!!!!!
Buyin boots online is probably the worst thing ya can do anyways!!!!! Go into ya local and get them fitted/blown out and then to walk away knowin that they should endeavour to help ya out if things go wrong for some reason, is a worth any extra cent that ya might have to pay!!!!!

That’s cool. Support whoever you want, I can respect that. I’m not looking to start trouble. I’m not trying to advertise for anyone. I didn’t post any links. And I’m not trying to take anyone’s cut. I’m just offering someone the chance to buy gear at an affordable price, when clearly, “supporting the local industry” means taking a chance the next $400 is another waste of money.
Worst thing you can do?
I don’t see why I should have to pay 800% more than Americans on my gear.
Warranty? I’m usually fighting for that anyway. I’ve had shops try to scam me more when trying to warranty items than I did by people in Bangkok. I can buy 5 pairs of my boots for the price of one pair in store here. Why bother?
I could go on more about why the “buy from your local and support your store” doesn’t really work for everyone, but that’s another thing and not what this thread is about.
Again, I can respect whoever you wish to support, and I’m sorry if by stating that a brand can be ordered from overseas I am bordering too close to breaking the rules, but relax a little bit. Obviously not everyone is as financially well off as you.
guys please both relax
Mizu u know me well enough and you know that i will support local store after all boardworld is something that we all respect and try to build it up as much as we can.
So yeah thanks for all your input guys and ” CAN WE ALL JUST GET ALONG”
when you go get a new boot fitted, see if they have a board with some bindings attached that you can strap into (even better if they are the same bindings as yours) and play around, lean forward, sideways etc and see if any pain arises.
I’m completely relaxed, and I’m not lookin to start trouble either!!!!! I was just lettin ya know what the sentiments of the site owner is, and I do understand why people buy from overseas sites!!!!! But without the local industry supporting this site, it will simply not exist!!!!! The only way that the local industry can support this site, is if we support the local industry!!!!! It’s a catch 22 situation!!!!! If we want to save money by buyin all our gear from an os site, then don’t be surprised if our local shop closes down, and sites like this disappear from lack of financial support!!!!!
I will stand by my comment of buyin boots online is the worst thing that someone can do!!!!! It might take you a number of times before you get the right fit, therefore costin you stacks of money!!!!! And if you go into a store, try on boots, then buy online, that is just plain wrong!!!!! That store owner pays untold overheads to keep that business afloat, and more so in this current financial climate!!!!! It is morally wrong to use someone for there “free” service!!!!!
I doubt very much that you will find a product sold here that is inflated by 800%!!!!! I’d like to see an example!!!!!
Australian Warranty is also supported by our fair trading laws, that are easily accessible to any consumer, if they feel that a store has ripped them off or that a product has not met the standard to which the product was meant for!!!!! Something that is not available to people that buy from overseas companies!!!!!
You also have no idea about my financial situation so lets leave assumptions where they belong!!!!! I am still usin a pair of 09 Vans, that I purchased from a store in Jindabyne!!!!!
I’ll leave this as my final post in this thread!!!!!

I can tell you about sites that don’t require support from local stores to exist, and even thrive. And I’d be willing to bet you know one of them too.

Heaven forbid you ever shop around for the best price! No really, I’m poking fun, you have a semi decent point. But I don’t ever want to see you order anything online again? Okay? Local stores only for you. No exceptions.
No more using a business’s restroom unless you’re a paying customer either, mmkay?

800%? My boots retail for $500 here. A mere $70 online. Just under 800% but close enough to make a point. Now, because I know you’re thinking there, note that I never specifically stated Oz, and was just making a point. However, you won’t be far off our prices.
We also have a fair trading act, my point being it’s still easier and cheaper to avoid bothering with that.
Regards to your financial state were a joke due to you being such a fan of over priced product (whoa hey, another joke! or not?)- obviously I know nothing of it.
I think Lano is a perfect example of why you should buy your boots from a local store with a solid knowledge of boot fitting. In my opinion, the SLX is probably the best boot on the market. Lano bought the boots and they clearly didn’t work for his foot shape. I’ve worked in a snowboard store for 8+ years and I’ll seen it countless times. You can’t substitute the knowledge of a boot fitter and the process of trying on a complete range of boots. Based on what I’ve seen in my years of fitting boots, that’s the conclusion I draw. It’s almost impossible to “try on boots for free” these days. Stores had to introduce the boot fitting fee for this very reason. It’s not fair to waste an hour of a staff member’s time to try on a full range of boots, suck them for knowledge, then by the boots online (especially overseas). Personally I hate the idea of a boot fitting fee, but I understand why it had to be done.
On comparing prices to overseas, you have to compare the full retail prices. The Burton SLX for example retails for $550 in the USA and $650 in Australia. That’s $100 difference on a fairly large purchase. Just like the States, Australia also gives big discounts (40% on average) on boots at the end of the season. Of course there is the odd bargain floating around but I don’t think it’s the norm. Many brands won’t ship to Australia. I know some will but I hope those brands crack down like the other brands have.
Happy to keep this discussion going. Please just keep it factual and non-personal (not saying it has, just don’t want it to go down that road).
i dont see the “No Shipping to Aus” thing as a deterrant at all.
There are many ways around it that are openly advertised on the net/whirpool etc. (hell i have done it personally using a forwarding company in LA, sure you pay a little more in shipping but it still works out hell cheaper)
But i have not, and most likely will not buy boots online for the simple fact i want to know boots fit me properly. Luckily my Solaman F20’s are still in good nick and fit me like a motherf*#King glove after 5 or so years.
Deano i agree with you 100%.
just to be clear i got my boots from USA coz i had someone coming back from usa, so they got them from USA burton store. i did not get my boots from online store.
what really scares me and puts me off from buying new boots are following things
1) SLX felt like a glove and so comfy on my foot and while i was wearing the around house i had no problems what so ever.
its only that second or third day was starting feel pain and by 4th or 5th day i could barely walk.
and i am just scared that is will not happened with this burton hail boots .
either way i guess i got to bite a bullet and see how it goes.
I bought my GF Forum boots online ($50 shipped to my door so i couldnt say no) and they fit her fine and they still going strong after 3 years, so its not all bad. Everyone of my mates i ride with has bought their boots online and none have any major issues.
I have a strong feeling your bindings are causing pressure points and causing the pain. But im only going off what you have typed here, I would take the guy from STM’s advice before i would take mine on the matter. But to me if they feel fine when walking around etc. but after a few days riding they hurt…
I think i may be confusing you now. If STM say they dont fit your foot, try sell your boots to recoup your costs then buy new boots. Hopefully you wont be too much out of pocket. They know more about boot fittign than i do!!!!
I put the !!!! in as i wanted to see what its like to be Mizu, its fun
The prices for snow gear in Australia, soft and hardgoods, are an absolute joke. Like most people, I like to buy Aus and my threshold is usually about 20% - no one likes sending money o/s or having to wait, but I’ve never found an item locally that ever comes close. Usually prices are at least 40% cheaper, even after shipping.
^^ I don’t think your RRP comparison is realistic. It is quite easy to shop around online nowadays, not to mention take advantage of the clearance sales at the end of the NOHO season.
I’m actually interested as to why gear cost so much more here? Doesn’t it all come from the same place anyways?
