New Board Recommendations

Avatar

So I’m looking at getting my first new board as my current board is pre-owned. So I thought I’d come here for recommendations.

My specs!
Height: 6’2” (188cm)
Weight: 101kgs
Boot Size: 14

So in other words I need a big and wide board (damn that sounds so very wrong).

Any help/recommendations would be much appreciated.
I’m especially keen on a “banana” style cambered board.

If ya comin to the Shred, and ya can hold off a bit, there will be a couple of demo boards to try out!!!!! (Hopefully some wide/long boards, Jez?????)

That way ya can find what works best for ya!!!!!

These come in wide versions that are easily wide enough for your big hoofers. For your height and weight, I’d suggest a 159W (267mm waist width).

Or as you specifically requested “Banana” rocker:

The 159W in this one has a waist width of 265mm.

Thanks!

I currently ride a 163W so I feel like I want to stay around that range for sure.
Thinking it might be best to wait until the Shred and try out some boards there.

There is also the YES Basic 163W and the Greats 163W, they aren’t rocker as such, but they are a hybrid of camber in the middle with rocker at the nose and tail!!!!!

Dude, if you’re after an insanely well priced board and you’re keen on the 163W size, I’m with Mizu on the 2012 YES Basic 163W - but I’ll go even further and say there’s simply no better deal on the market than the 2012 YES Basic. For 2013, the YES Basic boards no longer have sintered bases - and I reckon it’s safe to assume that’s because they represented TOO good of a deal at the lower pricepoint, decreasing the relative ‘worth’ of the higher priced boards in the line. If you can find one (that’d be the hard part) get it.

I’ve got a YES Basic review floating around on here somewhere - anyone know where the reviews from the 2011 Shred are located?

Was it linked in one of the 2011 Shred threads?????

Weren’t the reviews from the Shred moved somewhere?

Here’s your review, chucky: https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/3560/

I would definitely agree with what Mizu and chucky are saying. The YES Basic is excellent value and a great all-round board. As mentioned, this board doesn’t have full rocker but ‘CamRock’ which is rocker in the nose and tail, and camber between the feet. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll get in touch with YES to see if they have one available.

Another board I would highly recommend looking at is the Burton Joystick Wide. Definitely one of my favourite rockered boards on the market. This board is super fun to ride and does feature a full rocker profile. You can also read my review on this board in the same thread as I linked above. The graphics are really cool too. This board also comes in a 163W.

You can also look at the Lib Tech Skate Banana. It’s very popular and features a full rocker profile. However it only goes up to 159W, which some would argue is big enough for you anyway, depending on how you want to ride it.

Also in the Lib Tech range, you could look at something like the Skunk Ape 161W or the Banana Magic 162W.

Have a look at the 163 extra wide that catalyst build, I would think that alot of the standard wide boards might not be wide enough for a size 14.
It comes in either a cam rockered version or a standard camber, the waist width on the 163 is 272mm http://www.catalystsnowboards.com/boards.html
Should try to get some of their boards at the shred to!
