Nothing could possibly happen to your car if you leave it at ozmums.

this could have happened anywhere. In no way am I suggesting ozgirls parents are located in a bad area.

I’ll have skitube pass with my season pass or a car provided with parking (if enough of you vote for my skibum entry).
I already have a Nat.Parks Pass for my car.

I’m willing to draw the short straw and do some running around for shredgoers.

FYI - a six pack to the catdriver (oversnow transport) gets you a long way.

The currant carpark at P is where the village is planned to be built.

Most accom have 1 or 2 spaces for overnight. Sometimes I was lucky enough to snazzle one (when I lived in Smiggs). There are big probs with overnight up there, Perisher gets cold at night, very cold! - if you haven’t prepared your car all sorts of problems pop up, like…. Welsh Plugs burst, electric wire plastic coating freeze to become extremely brittle resulting in multiple shorts and fire when you turn the ignition. Diesel turns to jelly. Washer lines burst. Plastic handles snap, locks become frozen. Handbrakes wont release…. etc, etc.
Unimaginable damage occurs. I’ve had most of these occur, some resulted in further bodily damage, like trying to rewire the ignition after a short, stripping a wire with my teeth but snapping my tooth in half because the wire was frozen solid.

The Australian public are better off not exposing their cars to these conditions. Facilities like NRMA are limited, so an overnight carpark in P would end up being a cluttered winter junk yard, any car left would get further damage when snow plows don’t know a car exists under a pile of snow and they try to clear it.

i have parked above snow line down here in mexico a fair amount of time in different cars (2010 subaru wrx, 2007 hilux ute 2001 jeep grand Cherokee) and never had any difficulties at all, and the only prep i have done to my car was anti freeze in the coolant. Not to mention heaps of times at guthega a few years ago, so im more than happy to park above snow line!

Not same elevation as Perisher, same shadow filled area’s, weather. Different side of biggest point on this continent. Perisher is a valley.

Yeah, first time I stayed on snow was at Perisher (Smiggs), and I took the old Subie without a drama!!!!! Just make sure the antifreeze is at the right concentration, so it doesn’t split the block!!!!!

that is true!

#1 in prep is antifreeze. Welsh plugs blow to save engine blocks splitting. But a boxer engine is built in separate halves so it could happen.

Not everyone is savvy.
Ever had your car covered in snow, had it melt in the sun, then a cold snap and tried to get in it, let alone drive, with water frozen in locks, window sills….
Cars over 10yo don’t like these conditions.

The main point is the amount of cars that wouldn’t leave the place in winter and the limited facilities for recovery or road side assistance. Monday (change over) on a cold, mid winter morning is bad enough in Thredbo. I could only imagine how ugly things would be in P. With so many people using Diesel these days that have great economy, very few will fill up at the only servo in NSW to have winter diesel or know to use additive to stop it becoming wax.

Am I to take it your cars never had an electrical problem within 12 months of exposure to those conditions? Especially your old Subie Mizu. Or were you fortunate enough to not suffer harsh conditions while you were there?

Hey now….  I think this requires some elaboration!!! LOL

100% none of the cars i have taken to the snow have had any electrical problems afterwards.
But as you said, mexico/guthega isn’t the same conditions as perisher

Two feet of snow on the Subie when we went to drive home, peak season 2000, and it was about 15 years old!!!!! Took a couple of extra cranks from the starter motor (it had sat there for 7 days), but didn’t miss a beat!!!!!

Took us to Thredbo each year after until we traded up to a Forester 2004!!!!! Again, antifreeze was the only thing that was checked!!!!!

A good point that a week of exposure to bad conditions would be bad for cars at perisher, I had a bad rain day which has been my only day at perisher and it was freezing and the Hilux took a few goes on the starter to get running. I guess the ultimate outcome would be under cover parking with the new resort but not likely???  I thought the Ski Tube with Accom would be nice too but also wishful thinking. I will just have to suck it up and take the Ski Tube.

The original idea was for the ski tube to go from the station. That would have made staying in Jindabyne soooooo much better…

I parked my Astra at Perisher opening weekend last year. It snowed once and drizzled another time. After 3 days the only trouble I had was the doors were frozen shut! I managed to open them without ripping the seals though! Also started first time grin

Haha! I was waiting for someone to bring that up!

Anti, yep this is how I found my car at 7am one morning last season.

Once it was put back on its wheels we found that the door handle was broken off (guessing they tried to break in!). a couple of panels had boot marks on them/dents (ie they had kicked the shit out of it when they were too drunk to break into it) and when that didn’t give them satisfaction the tipped the car on it side! Result = one written off car! (I also had a pair of ski’s stolen that weekend as well!)
