Hey all,
Went up to Buller yesteday to hopefully get some turns in and then check out the rail jam later on. My mate and I had a late start in the morning and didnt manage to get onto buller until about 10am. They were calling it a “black spot ” day so basically all lifts were closed due to wind except for BB1 and Holdent Express. Skyline Tbar was running at first too. We did one lift up BB1 and headed down to HOlden to find that was now closed as well, so we slid down to the Tbar to find they were closing that too. We managed to get on to Tbar before they closed that, and from the top of it we decided for something to do we would hike the rest of the way to suss out the weather at the top of Holden. Wind was unreal! we could hardly slide down with out being pushed over. At the top we just sat for a bit and had some mint slice and had a very entertaining conversation with at Tele skier before calling it quits and sliding back down and going to the pub.
Sat in the Kooroora for a few hours downing beers, rum and schnapps while deciding what we were going to do. We drove up with the intention of heading back after cattleman’s so we were keeping a tally of what we drank so we wouldnt drink too much to be over the limit later that night. We also tried to sus out last minute accom but were out of luck.
Eventually we went for a walk to Apres for lunch and another bevy for a change of scene. Ran into Robbie Walker so chatted for a bit before deciding to give BB1 another go. Went out, regreted it straight away, did one run then decided to head back to the car, get changed, and head back up…to the pub haha
Sat there and had one last beer with some chips, watchin the footy then played some pool waiting for the rail jam to start.
Got to 6 so we went out and chatted to the park crew for a bit while they were finishing setting up.
Weather was insane! Blowing an absolute gale across the rail and rain travelling horizontal! Set up ourselves right near the bottom of the rail with the wind to our backs wondering how long we were gonna last. I stupidly didnt bring a proper jacket back up and was in my snowpants and hoodies.

We stayed for a bout 45min of action watchin the crazy buggers throw themselved down the intense 45degree rail. Many slamming on the steps, into rails, each other, flat landings, hitting park/camera crew. Was quite the spectical. There was definately some big tricks being thrown down just while they were warming up. Unfortunatly we didnt get any pics as it was too wet to get the camera out for long enough. Had a lil point n shoot and tried for a few mins, but it was too cold with the wind and rain on us, and we kept missing the shots so gave up.
Eventually we decided to call it quits and get the bus back when my underlayers were drenched right through and i was close to hypothermia (at my own fault seeing i was drinking and stupid enought to not wear the right clothes).
During the start I had put my bets on Robbie to win. But didnt see the whole jam. Was a bit supprised to hear Tom won as when i saw him he wasnt anything too impressive (in comparison to others i mean), so I look forward to the videos to see the highlights of what went down.

Props to all the riders who were suicidal in those conditions and on that rail!
And sorry we didnt get any pics, but they pros were there doin there stuff with plastic bags covering every bit of tech so we left it to them wink

We rushed back to my place stopping at the bottlo on the way back, very wet and quickly stoked a roaring fire back in melbourne!
All in all, we still had a good day

PRESS RELEASE

Tom Pelley Wins Australia’s Premiere Snowboarding Event –
Burton Cattleman’s Rail Jam at Mt Buller

Mt Buller, Victoria (11th July, 2010) – Australia’s best snowboarders put on show for the 500+ spectators who braved the cold temperatures tonight for the 5th Annual Burton Cattleman’s Rail Jam at Mt Buller. Presented by Burton Snowboards, the Cattleman’s Rail Jam is Australia’s premiere snowboarding rail event, attracting the country’s best snowboarders who battle it out for the $7,000 prize pool under lights in the Mt Buller village square.

Under wild weather it was Tom Pelley form Bright, Victoria, who took out the title impressing the judges with a wide array of tricks all night including a backside 270 on, 270 off and an onslaught of twizels including a never seen before gap to 50-50 frontside twizel. After taking a hard fall on his last hit of the night, Pelley dislocated his shoulder, landing himself in hospital. Despite the injury Pelley was at the after party and in high spirits. “I’m pumped on finally taking out Cattleman’s. I’ve had some bad luck in the past and even a little this year with my shoulder however I’m just happy to have been able to put enough tricks down to take it out”

Second place was taken out by Mt Buller local Robbie Walker who is a two time past winner of the event. Although he fought hard for the hat-trick, Walker couldn’t match Pelley on the night. The best trick was awarded to Matt Sedunary who impressed the judges with an “inward 270 board slide” on the centre handrail
