Shaun White Gold Medal Run @ Winter X Games Tignes 2012

The question is, was Mark McMorris’ run any better?

YES! It was.
It wasn’t Mark at his best but it was way better than Shaun’s run. I’m not angry at Shaun, he just competes and gets what he gets. I’m angry at the judges.

I don’t know how many points you get for the rails in this comp, but if rail points and jump points aren’t 50:50 or even 30:70, then what’s the point of even having them. What’s the point of even having Slopestyle at all!
Sorry to rant, but this makes me a little stabby.  michelle

If the rails were even worth 30% of your run (and I think that’s pretty low) Shaun wouldn’t have even made the podium!
If his jumps were awesome (they weren’t) he would have got 65% there, but his rails were lacking so he he would get 15-20% at best. If this were the scoring system I would have given Shaun about an 80 or 85.

So that means that the rails must be worth absolutely nothing. 10% at the most.
Ridiculous. You could skip the rails altogether and still make the podium.

I just watched it again, I will say his jumps were worthy of the score (though I can’t figure out, something i didn’t like… maybe the pants) backlip slide was nice, but the other 2 rails were sketchy. A 97 and Mark got a 90…. that ain’t right.

Marks rails went:
Backside 270 on 270 off
Frontside 270 on
A switch up on the bottom rail (not perfect)
And he actually grinded the rail… not just tapped them on the way to the next jump.

WAY better than Shaun rails. And I think their jumps were about even.
So why did the scores go that way???

You nailed it, Andy.

Maybe cuz Shaun did 2 of his doubles switch?

Maybe. I could see that would get him more points on the jumps.
I could accept Shaun getting 97 and Mark getting 90 if it was jumps only. But it’s like the rails didn’t count for anything.

The thing I have noticed about Shaun White his whole career is he is driven as hell to get that win. And he ALWAYS give the judges what they want to see. So if the judges say the jumps are worth 90% and the rails are worth 10%, then Shaun (and any other rider who pays attention to the scoring system) will just play it safe on the rails and hold speed for the jumps.

X-GAMES… LISTEN… IT’S GOING TO MAKE SLOPESTYLE REALLY BORING!

Can anyone tell me if the X-Games are part of the TTR?

This is an interesting read if you’re into the mechs of a SS comp:
