mmm matte black is killer!

always said when/if my car gets scratched badly, i will get the spray painter to respray it in matte black (through insurance of course+ i will throw what ever is extra)

It may be impractical, gets damaged/scratched easier then gloss but i dont care.

I considered going matte black but decided on gloss. Done matte in lavender and then green on the last 2 paint jobs for the VW. This time I’m doing gloss black.

Enamel chips much easier than 2pack and clear coat enamel turns yellow after a while. A spray painter will use 2pack.
But enamel matte black is easy to repair - I used to carry a spray can of my selected colour and touch up any chips or scratches with it on the road.

My Sunraysia’s are matte black!!!! and will look even better when I paint the brake callipers bright yellow.

can you notice the touch ups easily though?

Depends how good you are with a spray can wink
Na! matte black is undetectable as long as you don’t leave dribble and runs - it hides everything.

Matte finishes hide faults in body work. This is why so many of the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s hot rods used matte.

With gloss you need to use the body contours as a border for your touch ups. Metallic is the worst! the whole panel has to be re-painted.

My VW has very straight body work. Because I paint it myself without a booth I have to use enamel (which chips easy) so matte is the choice for touch ups.
Here is a close up of the green matte done from spray cans) after 12months.

Last year when the gearbox exploded. (It’s been sitting in the mechanics yard since July)
I had done one panel with one coat and sealed the undercoat on the others.

The green has almost faded to white now. And surface rust has come through from sitting exposed without it’s electric rust converter (battery disconnected).

The green cost $90 in pressure packs. Cheapest paint job ever!
A car builder (who owns a car with a $20,000 paintjob) was impressed!!!

Your right Oz but gloss black is gonna make MY68VW stand with the crowed it should.
It will look almost as mean as it sounds and performs.

It’s surpassed my personality and deserves to be dressed the way that suits it best.

^^ INSANE! ^^

I couldn’t imagine how much different snow riding to city riding would be!

I imagine with those spiked tires the grip would be insane! Like way better than slicks on tarmac.

And how good would it be knowing if you come off you have pow to cushion the impact.

More often than not, it’s less about what your message is, and more about how the public perceives that message. Sad, but true.
