ABC2 Doco - Children of the Tsunami - JAPAN

Avatar

watched an amazing doco on ABC2 last night - Children of the Tsunami

Highly recommended viewing. Once again the Japanese people amaze me, i was traveling through Sendai (up the coast from fukushima and hard hit by the tsunami) the year before. I still have no idea what i would have done had the quake and tsunami hit when there (i imagine sh***ing myself)

Yeah, I watched that last night!!!!! Great doco!!!!!

I also watched a doco (on SBS I think), last week, that was about the impact of nuclear meltdown and the long term impact on the neighbourin residents!!!!!

They showed Chernobyl as it is now, and demonstrated that while the radiation did impact a few, the worst part was the mental toll it had on the people, due to the stress of havin their lives uprooted and changed forever against their will!!!!!

You could see, and hear this same thing from the kids in last nights doco!!!!! And with some havin the tsunami first, followed by the radiation it has been a terrible blow to all affected!!!!!

There are some brave little kids in that doco, as like you Banger, I would have shit myself and probably still would be shittin myself today!!!!!

Japan 2013 for me for sure!!!!!

It was definitely a good doco. I think they will appreciate all the tourism they can get at the moment Mizu so they won’t be complaining when you turn up thats for sure….especially since you will give them at least 500 posts/plugs on boardworld and hopefully convince more of us to follow. They couldn’t buy that kind of exposure! smile

I’m just jealous cause you have locked in Japan and cause I can’t reach 1000 posts!

I’d be concerned about radiation, myself. I’ve heard that there are over a hundred reactors with some kind of leak. Haven’t done any further research to confirm this but then I don’t think I’m going to Japan anytime soon anyway.

oh and I didn’t see the doco, I was watching the series Carrier on sbs2 but I’ll watch it for sure. Thanks for the tip.

We live with radiation everyday!!!!! It’s only long term exposure to high levels that has been linked to health issues!!!!!

The USA has thousands of reactors, some that are housed in schools/colleges etc!!!!!

Plus if ya go to Japan, most of the good snowfeilds are based on the west coast, away from tsunami threat!!!!!

I am with Mizu.

I was asking Banger to clarify his exact concerns - having just returned I was hoping i would be able to ease them somewhat. I didn’t want to go on a tyrant without know exactly what he was concerned about… Radiation in the food. Radiation in the air? Further earthquakes/ Tsunami threats?

I’m well aware that we live with radiation every day, but I’d want to allay my concerns about radiation in the food and air before I decided to go.

Its probably perfectly fine - I’m not saying I wouldn’t go….I’m just saying I’d want to look into it a bit before booking a ticket!

There are actually people that still live inside the exclusion zone in Chernobyl that have no adverse health issues!!!!!

yeah and there were also a lot of deformed babies born. There are also a lot of people who smoke for years and don’t die of cancer - doesn’t mean its not dumb as hell to smoke!

I’m not saying that anyone else shouldn’t go, or that I’m sure it is unsafe and I wouldn’t go either. Its probably perfectly fine to go..I’m just saying that I personally would want to look into it first before I went.
