“Charities” are a relative term in my experience.  Do the people or the cause get money they would not have otherwise got, yes.  Do they get anywhere near 100% of the money given in the name of that cause, most definitely not.  Charities are a politically correct way to run a business for self profit that people see as being on the whole morally and ethically sound.

I concur with the notion that charities are rife with scams,

I still donate money sometimes to select charities while still knowing that not 100% of my money is going where it should
movember and daffodil day

another thing i noticed of late which has gone down the toilet
clothing bins….i can not find a decent one around my area to donate my clothes any more

half of them are filled to the brim with rubbish (actual rubbish not bad taste in clothing) while others reek of urine

I generally donate to events I take part in… the 90km ride from Sydney to the Gong, the City to Surf, Movember etc.

I generally don’t donate to things like this where 75% of the money goes to the people who run the charity and 25% goes to the people you want it to go to.

The guys who run the ‘Movember’ charity pay themselves six figure salaries.

When I read about this (years ago) I wanted to get in on the action, so I registered a few ‘Fanuary’ domain names to start an equivalent womens’ charity. Unfortunately, before we could get things up and running, a NZ crew with the same idea beat us to the punch.

Yea, but if you are making money and doing work, why not pay yourself… at least I can take part in the event. I don’t like giving my money away for absolutely nothing…lol

its the world we live in, its all about money and how everyone can screw everyone for a dollar, so sad but its the truth.

it really makes me sad to see what ppl turned out to be ( and i am not saying we all are like this but just in general)

Saw this on facebook just now:

I watched the first 5 mins of Kony 2012 today. Then started thinking that it’s had 11,600,000 veiws (3pm NZ 3/8/12) its ~30mins long, thats 5.8 million hours, ~240,000 days, ~662 years, average life expectancy in NZ ~78years. Means that video has taken ~8.5 lifetimes. Then I got morally confused
