FIFA World Cup 2010

rider26 - 20 June 2010 02:18 AM

I’m going to keep this short and sweet, otherwise you are going to hear a tirade of abuse about referees. That was not a red card! Anyway, I’m proud of the Socceroos. They played extremely well and deserved the win. Harry Kewell is a legend! REFS…. grrrrrrr

I agree, total balls.
Why they don’t introduce a video ref system into soccer like they have in most other sports is beyond me.

good night to any of Australia’s chances

Kewell was so unlucky, but we played a really solid game

How about Kaka getting sent off? That was ridiculous! It just shows there is a real need for video replays in soccer.

well, in the aussie game I just think it was bad luck. From the ref’s point of view, an arm blocked a goal from happening which means an automatic pk, and an automatic red card. Intentional or not, the ref had to make the call. If he hadn’t called it, the other team would have complained to high heaven that a player used his arm to block a goal. Wrong place at the wrong time, shit happens. Not sure video replay would have changed that call. Intentional or not is more of a subjective call I think.

On the other hand (no pun intended), USA’s third goal being not counted, Italy’s pk dive last night, and Kaka’s sending off…that is total bullshit and ruins the game imo. Oh yeah, and Fabiano’s double handball too.

yeah its getting out of control isnt it?? in such a hugh comp aswell!!

It is only so ridiculous because it is so highly televised. These kinds of mistakes happen all the time in soccer. The biggest difference is that usually, over the course of 40 games or more, it evens out over the season. When there are only 3 games to play for half the teams, it is tough to accept any mistakes that don’t go your way.

Technically, Harry Kewell should not have been sent off. It needs to be deliberate AND stopping a goal to warrant a send-off. If it deliberate or stopping a goal, but not both (XOR for all you electronics geeks out there) then it is a spot kick. A deliberate handball is usually a yellow card, but a handball on its own usually only results in a foul.

I have no respect for Italian soccer players.

7 - 0. Wow. Massive scoreline. I can only hope that the Ivory Coast can equal or better than, and that Portugal lose in order for my prediction of Drogba getting the golden boot to come true.

Kaka getting sent off. Total and utter crap. In this case (and with the Kewell case) I think video replays should be taken. It is quite clear that Kaka is standing his ground, which he is entitled to do, and that the cote d’Ivoire player is hamming the shit out of the situation (and should be subsequently yellow carded himself). Although he hasn’t been living up to his name so far this cup, he is one of the best players in the world and it is sad to see him miss out on a match for a non-offense.

I think I am about done for the time being. All I can say right now is that I will be cheering for Ghana, until Germany scores. At which point I will be cheering for them to score lots. Which isn’t impossible, seeing that if they lose then Germany are out of the cup completely, regardless of the result in Australia’s match.

I enjoy the world cup but I think Soccer needs some new rules to ‘liven up’ the game.

1: Half field rule - once you cross half way, you can’t go back!
2: Once you pass half way, a 3 minute shot clock starts.
3: Less strict on tackles (to eliminate diving)

If only… LOL!

Go Holland!

How bad are France? They can never back up a good World Cup with another. They win in 1998 then failed to score a single goal in 2002. They make the finals four years ago then bottom their group this time.

I’m watching the Argentina vs Greece game now. 75 minutes in and still nil all, looks to be a pretty open game. Both teams missing some good chances. Oh cancel that, as I type Argentina scored. 1-0 Argentina.

So now that we’ve seen all teams play at least twice, which team do you think will take it all? My money is on Brazil, followed by Spain. Argentina and Germany have both been impressive too, but I don’t think wither will go all the way.

France have been quite a letdown for my wallet this world cup.
That cancelled out with the mexico uruguay match. I chucked 25 bucks on each of the teams to win. Thanks to the fantastic odds, it’s one of the few matches where you can do that and make a nice profit as long as they don’t draw.

Or we need Ghana to win. If Ghana beats Germany, and we beat Serbia, we will go through with Ghana.

Very eagerly anticipating that match. I don’t care that I have an 11 hour shift at work to back it up, I want to know what is going on!

Great win for Australia this morning. We didn’t go through, but I’m really proud of the Socceroos. We didn’t have the best of luck this tournament, I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.

England sneak through and they face Germany in their next game, which will be a cracker of a game. USA deserved to go though after being robbed of the win in their previous game.

Big game for Italy coming. Looking forward to Brazil vs Portugal too.
