Best Mountain in Canada

Avatar

Hey guys, thinking of going over to Canada at the end of the year for the season.
Looking to work on one of the mountains, just wondering if anyone could suggest a good mountain, or a good form of employment?
I wanna try & avoid the bigger mountains such as Whistler & Big White etc.
But if anyone has had any experience or worked over there & could give us some advice that would be great.
Cheers

If you don’t want to go to Whistler or Big White - look at Fernie, Revelstoke, and Banff (Sunshine, Lake Louise etc..). They would be my next options if it were me. When you say bigger mountains, what are your referring to exactly? The size of the mountain, town, tourists, nightlife etc…? Fernie and Banff would also be considered big mountains. Revelstoke is a new mountain resort and I have heard a lot of good things about it.

I have done three seasons in Whistler (working as a snowboard instructor) and been to Big White a few times. Big White is a smaller mountain, much smaller town, and the town is a lot quieter. Whistler has it all; big terrain, lots of vertical, big town, lots of action and nightlife etc…

If you have any specific questions please let me know. I know quite a few members also have a lot of experience riding/working in Canada. One thing is for sure, you will have a great time over there. I can’t wait to head back to Whistler in October for the season.

Probably worth reading this thread too: https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/359/

Don’t know about the “best” mountain but my favourite would have to be Red Mountain. Rossland has a great small town feel, and is only 10 minutes from the hill. There’s a mecca of Heli/Cat ski ops all around the area, and the town of Nelson is not far if you want to escape to a bigger city. I forget the name of the other city which is south of the border in US and A is pretty close by too, but a hassle for border crossings. It’s got good snow and awesome tree riding, steep terrain (beware of unmarked cliffs), an ok terrain park - seems they don’t have the budget or staff to keep it well shaped/groomed and a pretty good lift system. What’s missing is the big tourist scene of Banff or Whisler, the convenience of a substantial village, that offers more than 1 pub/eatery. Don’t forget to visit the Flying Shovel if you end up going.

thanks for you help guys

I’m a big fan of Red - generally good snow and steeeeeep tree runs. The only downside is over the past few years has been lots of chairlift breakdowns..

Whitewater is similar, maybe a bit smaller, but they’re installing a new chair this summer and extending their terrain by a lot. I can’t wait to get back there, just love it.
