Sick man (shit about the deck though)

Hey guys my names Ben and I’m 17 and I also skate with BKM regularly smile This thread is really sick and inspires me to go skating whenever I read some of the progress people are making so I thought I’d contribute aswell smile

I’ve been skating for about 6 months now and I love it! I’ve got my ollies on lock for sure and my pop shuvits and kickflips are getting pretty solid. My 50-50s and 5-0s are on lock too but so keen to get noseslides and/or boardslides, just gotta get over the fear of slipping out haha I can ollie off decent sets of stairs (7 set is my highest so far) and my FS 180’s off things are pretty solid but only off like 4 sets or lower lol I wanna go bigger. I can rock to fakie on a decent sized quarter but only axle stall/ axle grind on the mini ramps (another one of my goals is to axle stall the quarter i rock to fakie on). One of my favourite things to do is probably hippie jumps haha their just so fun! I can also ollie to manual finally after trying for ages lol

I skate with guys who are much better than Iam and also a few guys that are around my level. It’s really fun cos we’re constantly pushing eachother to do things which creates great progression for all of us smile I try skate as much as I can and sometimes feel like I wasted my day if I don’t!

Anyway I’ve enjoyed reading everyones posts and keen to see whats ahead smile

You’re doing all that after 6 months! You’re killing it man, you must be skating almost everyday. Keep it up Ben shaka

Yeh thats it. I found with my kickys if I didnt try properly I would always have it stall half way on my foot. So thought I’d try and it worked out. landed 3rd try. But have only landed 2 since. Gonna work on these till i have it down pat. such a cool trick to have in your pocket!

Turns out the deck still has some life left in it. Skated at Mt Evelyn yesterday and after tightening up the deck bolts it was still ok.
When I was at city park on sat I launched up a kicker, aired and came down on the tail hard and it went crack! The tail snapped a bit under the grip tape over the trucks. But from the underside ther is just massive stress fractures running length ways. Still ok till it takes one more big hit. Then I will move back to my other 24 deck until I get a new one.

haha, awesome work Brandon. Love how you have wood steel and concrete all together to make the same feature

hahahaha that’s awesome BKM

Hey K2, can u also do a casper flip without the shuv it part? aka just half a kickflip and back to the wheels? I’m sure I’ve seen a skater a park do it one time. I could be wrong

I have only been trying the full casper with the half flip then shuvit.

When I was learing kickys (and still learning really. Havent got them dialed but landing some big smooth ones) I would sometimes not kick enough and it would stop on my foot which is why I decided to try caspers. But because I kick forward and out I reckon it would be a bit awkward to reverse the flip. People who kickflip by pushing down might find it easier to do that.
Im not a fan of it really though. Would rather just do a casper or kicky

It’s been raining like crazy here on the central coast so I hit up my local indoor park yesterday.

I can’t land blunt stalls and can’t think of anything new to learn lol. So I’ve been trying to become better at the tricks I’ve learned so far and take them to different halfpipes and quarters.

- I did manage to get Frontside Axle Stalls on a real mini ramp (not the little thing with no coping that I usually use)
- And I learned switch rock to fakies too which helps a lot to link all my tricks together.

-I took all the lip tricks I know (5 or 6 I think) and can now do them all in one run on a mini ramp. Which is so much more fun than just one or two hits and then bailing.

Fun session. And I’ve got a mad lumps on my shin and my ankle to prove it smile

if you want some new tricks that are pretty easy and look good.
first start off with a fakie 360 kickturn. they are super easy and heaps of people are always impressed when you do them. So do a rock to fakie on one side of the pipe and you are coming back down switch. now put your feet in the stance you would for a fakie ollie. When you get to the spot where you would normally do a kickturn. lift up your back wheels whilst swinging your sholder in momentum with the board. just comit and make sure you swing your shoulders. once you have done the 360 push your front wheels down and ride away clean.

Hope you can understand this. if you really want to learn them i can put up a video for you. also if you get them down heaps buttery than try and put a rock in the middle. they look sick.
if you have problems just let me know

Are you adding Nose and Tail stalls to fakie in there? They are a good inbetween trick to keep momentum going.

Another way to make ticks like rock to fakie, rock n roll, fakie rock, etc. is to add a nollie (or fakie ollie, depending which way ur going) off the coping. Really fun to do if you get a bit of float.

Here is a clip. Not great but only one I could find on youtube of what I’m talking bout.

Another fun one is like TT is saying. Roll up fakie, do a “half cab” direction kick turn, to rock n roll. Make sense?

I think its easier to do it fakie first, then try it regs and turn off ur nose. Doin backside turn will be a lot harder

As for my progress, the last week havent skated much, but had a sick day skate on Friday at Berwick park.
Was crazy to skate cos the wind was soo bad! One way thru the park you lost all ur speed instantly the otherway, you didnt have to push, but as soon as you were in the air, the wind took you for a joy ride!

Was landing some NICE and poppy kicflips today. Maybe the wind was helping tongue wink
Decided to hit the round flat bar. was trying boardslides and some horrible crooks. Nearly got a few back boards, and a couple of nice slappy backs. Nothing like this machine I was skating with:

Jeremy Corea making it look all too easy:

this is how u lock into a 5050 on a round bar!

If it wasnt for the wind, I would have landed back boards up the bank and along the flat. Had to hammer down the bank and by the time I ollied up the next one to the flat bar the wind took over. I managed to slide most of it many times. But not off the end. Next time I’ll get it for sure.

Was getting some massive fronside ollies transfering over the bank pictured above. But again the wind was making it hard for me to keep the board under my feet to stomp the landings.

Got some really long backside 5-0s and 5050s on the quater.

Was trying to do frontside 5-0 to fakie. Nearly at it haha

Looks like a sick park man!

I can finally axle stall on a decent sized quarter and managed to kickflip off this speed kill at my local park (its about as high as a two or three set). I learnt to kickflip off the speedkill during a game of S.K.A.T.E haha was running out of tricks to do so i tried it a couple times then i got it :D getting nollies down too but still feeling abit awkward lol but all in all had a sick session smile
