Longest Transit / What You Do For Pow

Avatar

Hey All
Well after a marathon effort to return from Niseko to Sydney I thought this would make a good thread to see other peoples epic missions. My two best:
.
Longest transit 1) Newcastle to Vancouver: 6am depart home, arrive Sydney Airport 8am, check in, board plane, sit for 30min, everyone off, wait 6hrs, fly to San Francisco, miss connecting flight, re-schedule, flight cancelled, stay in San Francisco, fly to Vancouver following day, bus ride to Whistler 3hrs due to truck accident. Total Transit: 48hrs / 2days
.
Longest transit 2) Niseko to Newcastle: depart Niseko 11am drive in blizzard to Sapporo. Sapporo (New Chitose) closed down due to 50cm snow on runways, finally board flight after 8hr wait. Miss connecting international flight Tokyo to Sydney. No seat available for two days. Finally get seats, waiting at gate, earthquake / tremor hits. Flight leaves on time. Arrive Sydney on time. Drive to Newcastle. Total Transit: 72hrs/ 3days

Sydney to Breckenridge, Colorado. I was in transit for 35 hours and was greeted with thin air (Breck base altitude 9,600ft). Let’s just say I had a very good sleep that night.

Well, you Aussies have me beat on transit, but then again, AUS is far from anywhere in the world.

Here are some of mine:

Niseko, ‘05: Germany - Tokyo - Chitose Airport, got delayed due to snowstorm, so I ended up sleeping for the night on the floor in the airport, then caught a bus the next day to Niseko.

I sat next to a guy once who was doing, yes, Perth - Sydney - S.F. - Washington DC - Buffalo, NY. Ouch.

Also flew Tehran - Frankfurt - S.F., and had a Pune - Mumbai by car - Frankfurt - S.F.. Both were rather long trips!

And S.F. - L.A. - Auckland - Christchurch, followed by a 12 hour bus trip to Queenstown with one breakdown in the process. Biz class all the way, followed by a hostel!

My longest is Sydney to Hakuba - Sydney to Cairns - Cairns to Narita, Tokyo - Then a 5-6 hour bus to Hakuba, no delays. That is waking up 6am Sydney time and arriving 2am Japan time.

Longest in Aus - Jindy to Buller and didn’t go snowboarding.

Longest day - Arrive in C’town at 8ish to meet Spaz (for the first time ever) get in his car and drive for 4-5 hours to Thredbo. Crash on his couch. Get up at 7am, go riding for 2/3rds of the day. Get back, have a rest and food etc. Then get in the car and drive back to Narrellan. Sleep in the spare room at Spaz’s parents. Get up at 6am with all my gear and catch a train back to North Sydney Home, Have a shower and go to work.

1 day off at baw baw to hotham, didnt want to go to hotham but had to as falls creek back road was closed from omeo, leave at 8pm, drive most of the night to make first lift in the morning. sleep in the most uncormfotable dammed car. left 5pm to back for work next day, epic drive home, just as a massive snow storm was heading in. get up on our road bout 11pm, chain snaps and road crew being assholes wudnt come and help and told us we cudnt leave the car on the side on the road, had to shovel out one wheel to the next chain fitting bay, took bout an hour and a half to get our car bout 200 metres up the road, then was the massive walk up to the village, another hour.
