What are your goals this season? Is there anything in particular you want to improve on?
Is your main goal just to have fun? or just to stay injury free?
My main goal is always to stay injury free. Other than that I am looking to work on my park riding. I always use the Australian season to ride a lot of park. I also want to throw down on the air bag at Thredbo (looks like so much fun!). I’ve been trying to come up with tricks in my head that I wouldn’t normally attempt on a park jump. It’s not really a goal of mine to have fun because that naturally happens every day I’m on a snowboard. Snowboarding is FUN!
Get as many days in as possible, slide with my family & friends.
Hike and ride something I have not before.
Okay, for those instructors around here, what’s a reasonable set of goals for people like me (>35), who no longer quite have the psychology to hit the park but still wish to improve?
I’ve unfortunately hit the wall, I’m enjoying myself, riding powder well, but are starting to feel the effects of age (sore knees, diminished energy level, need for Viagra, etc.).
Just a suggestion… get better a riding switch. Not only will it progress your riding, but it will give you a better full body workout, which will keep you in better shape and reduce muscle fatigue while riding.
I also believe you can always improve turning performance. Have you thought about taking an instructors course? Not to teach, but to learn more and improve your technique.
You could also think about taking a backcountry course or certification. I have done the RAC avalanche course/certification, and I’m looking forward to continuing with more backcountry courses. I learnt a lot and it was really fun, but it also made me realise I still have a lot to learn. Let’s be honest, we can always gain more knowledge. As you learn more, maybe you can explore deeper into the backcountry and enjoy even deeper powder.
my goals would to improve my skills on rails and boxs, jumps i am comfortable with so it only seems right to do more rails and boxs this season. I want to be able to 270 onto a box and rail quite comfortably
biggest goal this season isn’t directly related to my own riding.. down here in tassie we don’t have a park to speak of, so me and the lads have started building rails and boxes - our goal is to build a sick backyard park + take features up to the hill for everyone to enjoy!
beyond that, improving my rail skills, and starting to learn advanced spins this season would be the bomb
definitely improve my confidence in the park, especially on rails and step ups. also to make my riding style look better and more flowy/smooth

I would really like to get some 180’s and 360’s down off jumps… 180’s off flat is fine but I haven’t mastered it off a jump yet.

You should go for backside 3’s methinks they are easier than FS. You can see the landing as you come around to it. FS is blind into the landing looking between your feet till you get the feel for them!
My goals are to get some style back and get the legs strong enough to land the stuff I used to when I was riding heaps more.

not kill myself and remain injury free is my goal. With a recently recovered fractured ankle i’m not sure how long it’ll last
I’m with Caboose. Hopefully doing a season as opposed to weekend warrior trips should give me plenty more opportunity.
Rail & Parks, wanna hit some huge kickers
I’m mainly looking short term to improve my switch riding as it’s rubbish at the moment. My other biggest issue holding me back is I’ve got scar tissue from some bruised cartilage on my bottom right rib so I need to see what can be done about this as it’s easily set off with any big stack. Last time I did it I was out of action for a month so don’t want to see that happening again.
pretty much spent the whole weekend riding switch, which i have never done before
much improvement, managed to get down the hill at an average speed with skidded/slided turns
turning switch heel side to toe side is a real brain fark - i tend to rush the turn - sometimes even hopping/jumping the turn, instead of letting the board run through it’s natural movement
keeping my weight on my right foot was tricky, but i was getting the hang of it
My left foot/leg muscle strength is sooooo much stronger than my right foot
