They advertised 10cm of new snow overnight - this was partially correct as there was around 10cm mid mountain but up top there was considerably more.

Met up with Ty Monty and Spitzy first thing (3 other lifties) and cut a line from garbanzo down to red through the trees. Off one face I was blinded after dropping in with a full head to toe cloud/spray, turned through it again and got the same thing for the next 3 turns - couldn’t have been a better start to the day.

After that we shot straight over to Peak chair and cut a line through VD trees - dropping a nice cornice in whistler bowl on the way there. Had the same blinding faceshots with snow caked all over my goggles after the first few turns in VD trees. Was already a little cut up in there but the snow was deep so I suggested that we hit up Million Dollar Ridge which was just great, popping off anything and everything we could hit with tonnes of fresh powder. Even though it was a little tracked there was still more than enough in there to have a tonne of fun and left us all grinning from ear to ear.

Ty and Spitzy both had gopros filming at different points so I’ll see if I can get their memory cards and piece together some footage from the day if I can.

They all decided to head into Dusty’s for a feed after the million dollar lap so I met up with jeremy at the bottom of creek and we shot up the hill to peak again cutting 2 of the better lines I’ve had all season in some seriously deep snow which was knee deep on average with it getting even deeper at points. Depending on who you speak to the area goes by 3 names - christmas trees, everglades and bansai. We took a pretty conservative line the first time through sticking with an area that Jeremy knew and then on the 2nd lap I thought it could be an idea to cut further around the ridge which was a bit of a gamble as there are a lot of areas off peak that can lead to cliff zones. Luckily we dropped at a certain point rather than continuing after reading the terrain and missed out on a cliff area which was lucky. But the gamble to cut further around paid off with some great steep lines with deep powder the whole way down to Highway 86.

I was pretty spent after this having charged so hard all morning and Jeremy suggested a hit run lap which was a good way to end the day. Jeremy pointed out some new hits which were good fun and have me stoked to get back up there riding again on my next days off.

Once again, cheers for showing us the new lines today Jeremy was great to get up there shredding on a pow day again with no crowds shaka

Also heres another shot from the other day that my mate posted of the cornice drop that I hit below DOA

Always a pleasure, Finney. smile

Rider’s Blog: Day 48

More fresh snow so I caught up with Finney and we made our way up Peak. I thought it would be good to check out the Everglades. Basically steep fall line tree run from the top of West Ridge. Rated as one of the best tree runs on either mountain. I believe over the two runs we probably dipped into Everglades, Bonsai, and even the lower part of Frog Hollow (when we hooked far right, Finney). The first run we definitely dropped into Everglades and made our way over to Bonsai. The second run we probably started at Bonsai and by the bottom we were very close to lower Frog Hollow.

Anyway, the runs were really nice and we scored some deep snow along the way. Super keen to hit this area again super early on a powder day. There’s some unreal terrain and with thigh deep pow - it would be heaven. So I had two runs up there then a couple of hit run laps. The groin has been playing up again so called it quits before it got too aggravated. It should be fine but these things take time to heal unfortunately.

So, I’m heading up north to Smithers on Sunday for a week or so. It’s a 16 hour drive and we’re staying with one of Michelle’s brothers. There’s a mountain called Shames Mountain (http://friendsofshames.ca/) which claims more snow than other other lift accessed resort in North America (average of 15 metres a season). Anyway, I’m going to check it out. Apparently the powder is always super deep and no lift lines at all. Should be good.
