Packing Tips for Shred Trips!

His complaints were more with long stopovers, and rude and un-helpfull staff. He only saved less than $300 but could have had near a whole day more in Japan that was lost in stopovers. But I’m the same as you, $500 is alot of play money, especially when your going on a holiday.

Yea but and an extra few $$$ = $500 each in our case.

I’ll deal with a shit airline for 40% off flight costs…

But then again, I’m not one to complain at shit seating.

40% off the cost?

My flight cost $998 - for Qantas. To Tokyo. Only paid for in November.

I am not one to complain about seats and the like but what turns me off the most is the stopover in Cairns and the departure date/times.

When I was booking we were looking at 1200 for Qantas and most other airlines.

I got Jetstar for $720 with baggage. And I’m not about to hire entertainment or anything!

That sucks about the timing for you but I def preferred to pay the extra $200 and something for Qantas, no stopovers and food and booze!!.

my sentiment exactly.

When i first went to NZ i was a poor apprentice.
But now im earning damn good money, i will splash out on the best flights for international.

allmost allways check in asks you to take board bags around to special luggage.

if ure on a tight weight limit, put on as much gear as u can, board boots as well if u want, stuff cameras , power cables, anything u can into ure jacket wen ure at check in , make sure its sweet for check in, then on ure way to special luggage stuff all ure shit back in and change up ure shoes. just sux wen they dont do it, ure left looking like shifty prick thru security and ure hot as phuck on the plane.

worked every trip so far, the chinese dont rly give a prik about 2-3 kg over wudnt worry if ure heading through them.

On this I just wanted to share a story my flatmate told me last night.

She is a bit of a fitness freak and did a triathlon last weekend she has this big fancy hard case bike cover thing…

Anyway I was asking her how she goes with weight allowances. She said that she has this great scam figured out - it is pretty much mirrored what you said above. She takes out stuff to get it under the limit (it helps if you are travelling with another person and you check in separately)

She said they only had a problem once when the check in staff escorted them to the oversize bag drop. But they just made up some reason to stuff around and stop and she gave up and left them to do it themselves.

I am definately using this scam next time i go boarding (well if i cant get under the weight, i didnt have a problem for my USA trip but i did for my NZ trip…weird)

My board bag was 21kg and they never weighed my carryon. We will see on the way back if I need to utilize this smile.

Really? you must of got a nice check in person, i got stung with a $200 charge, a mate got a $150 charge and his gf got $50 charge when we flew jetstar to NZ, all different check in counters as well.

Hi Guys

I’m currently looking into updating my snowboard bag to something with wheels. I’ve narrowed it down to the dakine low roller or dakine high roller.

I was all ready to order when I decided it would probably be a good idea to look into airline policies and now I’m majorly confused!
My original plan was to hopefully pack all my snowboard gear and my clothes/luggage etc into the one bag and just travel with that (which led me towards the high roller) however after reading the airline sites it looks like this wouldn’t work at all as I would break the allowance of weight for one bag and be charged large fees.

I guess what I want to find out is what does everyone tend to do here when travelling. Are you best off travelling with a snowboard bag and a seperate bag for luggage or can you get away with a one bag solution?

If ya wanna get away with one checked bag, then the High Roller is the go!!!!!

Combined with ya carry on, ya will be able to do it!!!!!

Havin said that, I have a travel sleeve as well as the High Roller, and I just use whatever configuration suits whatever airline/my needs at the time!!!!! Best of both worlds!!!!!

I have an O&E roller and haven’t had any dramas. Although at Tokyo/Narita they ran a tape measure over everything, first that has happened. They asked me to hold it on the scales vertically for them to weigh. I took some of the weight with my arms, managed to knock 6kgs off. Sweeeeeeet

i would suggest low roller unless your planning on multi quiver

http://dakine.com/p/snowboard/board-bags/guys/low-roller
http://dakine.com/p/snowboard/board-bags/guys/high-roller

2kg difference between the bags
thats 10% of your allowance! (based on 20kg)

you will be surprised how much you can cram into a low roller
ive done
1 board, 1 binders, 1 pair boots, 1 helmet, 2 pants 2 jacket, goggles case (inc 2 gogs and lens), face masks/socks (both normal and snowboarding ones)/beanies/thermals , 1 jeans, 1 jumper, toiletries bag
your real issue is keeping it under the weight limit rather than what you can cram

on your carry on you can pretty much fit all your regular clothing + moar thermals + electronics…camera/chargers/etc
