I almost stopped to take a photo. It was to soon after the incident - the paramedics arrived as I did and only one police car had got there, it seemed they were about to close the road. Plus I was to full of rage at the weekends and mornings personal events to care.
There were several people both sides of the accident slowing down traffic. It was a horrific looking incident. No skid marks! the car just went straight into the trees on a very tame corner (the corner is signposted for 85kmh) but it’s one of those signposted such because many people have died there over the last 30 years (It used to be the deadliest corner in Australia) they changed Appin Rd about 20 years ago. (Appin Rd was the most dangerous in NSW for a very long time - because of the trees).
Semi trailers, fully loaded go around that corner at 110kmh (I’ve sat behind them doing it at 125kmh) It’s on a downhill.
The road was dry, the sun was high. I’m not surprised they are investigating the cause. My guess is her phone just regained reception (thats the exact place it does after 5 min of none) and she got a message or missed call alert - was looking for or at her phone instead of the road.
