Those look like Burton’s original 3 strap bindings, which first came out in ‘93 I think. Not sure what they were called.
Also I felt the cartels are much stiffer than the contact pros. I can’t use any forward lean at all with the Cartels, whereas I use 3 clicks on the Unions.

They were easily the most comfortable bindings on the planet (for their time) as the pressure was spread over such a wide area. I used to run 3 straps on the front foot, and 2 on the back (as you can see, they were removeable).
Some thieving arsehole stole mine (and the Ride Timeless they were attached to) while I was working a demo day at Perisher. At the time I was so bummed to lose them, as they’d stopped making them. Still, I was at least lucky they were stolen while I was working, as I was instantly hooked up with a brand new setup (which kicked off a 10 year run of riding Ride bindings).

Yeah, but unlike those asym YES boards it can’t be just flipped around and ridden backwards.

I haven’t seen anyone mention those step-in bindings yet, I think they were called “clicker” or something and made by K2.
^ Yeah, that’s right - ‘Clicker’. It was originally a K2/Shimano collaboration. Terrible.

My mate has em and he swears by them. They look pretty terrible to me - the boot has to fit, virtually no adjustment possible, dubious as to whether you could trust it to hold you, can’t imagine it gives a good flex profile etc etc BUT you have to admit it would be awesome to just step in while getting off the lift and just cruise off!

CJ how did you find the flex on the Raiden Zeroes?
In the high back it was fine for me because it didn’t give any unnecessary pressure anywhere, as well as being able to do quick and easy high back adjustments. The metal heel cup gives awesome toe and heel response so carving was a breeze I found.
Flex through the board was great. The smaller disc with the smaller foot makes a difference, I didn’t feel like I had a massive dead spot under my feet.
