the Devo thread!!

Avatar

Devo I’ve been sick nearly all week and haven’t managed to beat it before leaving for Japan tomorrow. Gave in and went to the doctors this morning and was given antibiotics, hopefully they kick in soon!

Not exactly the build up I wanted been pretty stressful worrying about it and I’m going to be pretty weak/unfit to start out with.

Haha that’s actually one of the few times I’ve left the house this week. Mum always told me to keep my feet warm so I don’t catch a cold so it couldn’t have been that anyway smile

Skip devo is just an abbreviation of devastated.

argh! I haven’t been to the dentist for around twelve years…and I’ve had a broken back tooth for aaages and I’ve just left it cos it doesn’t bother me…I don’t have private health insurance atm either so I know I’m just totally skating on thin ice. I feel like something is bound to happen sooner or later with my teeth and then its going to cost me an absolute mint…
I think I’ll be able to afford the Health insurance when I get some teaching work up here in the next month or so & I’ll get freddy on to it too so he gets that lifetime health cover thing (does anyone know anything about that? I’m hazy on the details) and then we’ll both go straight to the dentist I think.

I’ve been pretty good and always cleaned my teeth to try & look after them but I’m pretty scared what they’ll say about that broken tooth. I don’t even know how or when I broke it either…and I HATE needles so I think I have to find a dentist that offers happy gas instead. hahaha

argh! totally understand your wallet pain right now, deano! Pretty nervous about what they’ll say when I finally go.

Cords,

The loading is a percentage extra that you pay for the rest of you life! The loading kicks in once you are 30. And gets higher each birthday until you join. It is much better joining the earlier the better if you are over 30.

I think the loading is 2% and goes up by 2% each birthday. And that extra money is paid for your entire life! So if you are 32 when you sign up you will pay 4% extra (!!!!) for the rest of your life than me!

Also if you earn more than $80k a year ($160k as a couple)  per year you are also paying an extra 1% in your income tax. In some cases that loading is more expensive than the basic insurance.

DO IT!!!

well if you dont have insurance now, you will have a minimum 6 month waiting period before being able to claim any dental work etc.
I had this issue but because my GF works at the company. i got my waiting period waived. Cost me @0 for the 2 extractions, but i get $300 thankfully.

I am in the same boat, i cant stand needles. but this Dr was awesome, i didnt even feel the needles at all. From the point he injected me to the point i was getting stitched up (had to cut the gum to access the wisdom tooth) walking out the door was 10-15 mins max.

Overall its the most work i have had done at one time at a dentist, but by far the least painful. This Dr was awesome and im going to have him to some fillings i need done in 2 weeks.

Thanks ozgirl…I’m going to turn 30 in may and my husband will be 31 a few days later. I did know that we had to sign him up before he was 31 or we were going to pay more - just didn’t know how it worked. As I said, we’ll try and do it in the next month or so. We definitely don’t earn more than 80k. I earn like a quarter of that and he earns about half of it. haha - no worries with that extra 1%!

mizu - its not really the pain of the needle I worry about - I know they aren’t that bad…its just the physical thing of the dentist shoving one in my mouth that totally freaks me. Last time I went I got my first ever filling - I had no idea how it actually worked and next thing the dentist turns around with this massive needle to put in my mouth and I was like “woah woah woahhhh there! whats going on” and I just refused cos he caught me completely out of the blue & it scared the hell out of me. So I didn’t do it and he just did the filling (including the drilling) without any anesthetic. It was uncomfortable but not the worst…uncomfortable enough though that I haven’t really felt like going back for the last 12 years!

Deano - there are always a few health insurance companies going with deals that mean you can claim on most extras instantly…thats what we’ll be going with! I know there are dentists around that do the happy gas thing so i’ll just ring around for one of those, I think!

At Narita Airport homeward bound…. Devo!

yeh but make sure you read the fine print, alot have “conditions” that prevent any major dental work in the first 6 months of the policy.
