So whoever is doing the weather for Whistler needs to rethink their current job as they got the forecast for today completely wrong. Initial forecast was for a low of -27, it was colder in the valley at -15 but up the top of red it was -2 and the sun was out and I managed to get a little sunburnt. Needless to say I was well overdressed for today. On the upside though the forecast scared a lot of people away as we were never busy all day which was a nice break from the past few weeks of huge crowds.

Now that’s what I like to hear!!!!!  cool smile

Yeah it was really weird.. most of the day people were just riding straight onto chairs without any waiting at all which is an extremely rare sight at Red chair.

Didn’t stop snowing all day today.. all the way down to the village and it’s still snowing. Was in the lift hut this morning with Steve who is the Electrical Maintenance guy who starts up Red Chair most of the days I’m working and the weather report that came over his radio called for 10-15cm today and 15-20cm tonight. Despite the warmer temps up top the flakes were still very light and not too heavy at all. Rode down the bottom at 1pm and the snow cover was brilliant, no moguls forming anywhere and was able to hold some nice big carves cutting straight through the chopped up snow which was great fun.

Despite the warmer temps compared to the past 4 days and better conditions it still wasn’t that busy on Red chair either with most people only waiting a minute or two at most before getting on but it’ll no doubt change tomorrow with a more people up the hill for the weekend. Still plenty of snow in the forecast looking at most forecasts with the freezing level creeping up to 1000m over the weekend but this should still make for some great snow in the alpine which has me very excited for my next day off on Monday.

Shot down to The Circle after work and met up with Josh from Sandbox who sorted out a new helmet for me which was great, very happy with the whole warranty process from Sandbox. He also mentioned that they’d only had 3 claims over the past year which is pretty amazing when you look at the below article which shows Sandbox helmets being voted #1 snowboard helmet in Canada.
