I think the main thing here is that it’s Sandbox who are based in Whistler that Showcase are dealing with in my case and in yours it was Burton who had made a tough call on the same channel bump issue you had last year by not replacing the boards that Showcase agreed to warranty in the previous season.
Footage will come as soon as the temps drop and actually make it possible hahaha
Unfortunately they’ve taken out one of the features in the TG over night which is a real bummer as it was perfect for learning how to spin off of.
Went up today for a few hours and it was way too cold today to be riding park with all the layers I had on, really restricted my movement. Groomers were all good and the snow falling was super light and dusty like proper interior BC powder due to the -20 temps. Temps are dropping even lower again tomorrow to -27 which will make work very interesting tomorrow. I’ll be taking my super warm mittens to work thats for sure and throwing on extra layers all over.
Anyone out on the hill at the moment with exposed skin is ending up with frostbite if they’re bombing runs. Taking my hands out of gloves for anything longer that 20-30 seconds left me in pain to give you an idea of just how bad -20 is.
Back at work for the next 4 days but will do my best to sort out some coverage/photos for Australia Day next Thursday if Jeremy isn’t back here by then.
SUPER COLD = SUPER SNOW?????
I LOVE IT!!!!!
yep i went up for a while this morning but i forgot my face mask.. it was brutal cold on my face and my gloves were no good either. the snow was awsome though .
lasted an hour then rode out and went home
SUPER COLD = SUPER SNOW?????
I LOVE IT!!!!!
surprisingly it has been snowing, it’s on the verge of being to cold to snow which we’ve seen in previous seasons.. not a huge amount falling but I’ll take any fresh snow at the end of the day. Just a shame that once again they got the forecast wrong and we haven’t had the falls they were predicting. If it was a bit warmer no doubt it would have dumped.
negative 23 degrees on my 4am walk home this morning…not fun at all…
I hope these small amounts of super light/cold snow don’t have a negative impact on the stability of the snowpack.
Was talking about that today with some people and I’m hoping the same thing but unfortunately I don’t see it doing any good at all unfortunately
What’s the story with that?????
Does it form a “layer” of sorts that can encourage slides?????
Yeah, it does. These layers aren’t cohesive with the other layers. Super cold temps form a layer of ‘hoar’ which isn’t good for the snowpack at all. Basically they give an instability between the layers below and above them. They tend to improve over time, however really extreme conditions can pose a problem all season long. 08/09 was a classic example of how bad it can be.
You can keep up to date with the backcountry advisory here: http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/weather/advisory/index.htm
Ohh!!!!
This would really only effect Backcountry though, yeah????? Grooming and so forth would surely keep inbounds fine?????
For the most part it’s for the backcountry. Inbounds avalanches have occurred though; there’s big terrain up there and the same instabilities apply. The only difference is the avalanche control they perform inbounds. That’s why the alpine doesn’t open first thing in the morning. When there’s new snow, patrol has to go up there and bomb the crap out of it.
Michelle’s brother triggered an avalanche at Harmony three seasons ago, that shut the whole area for over a week. Shane has been involved in an avalanche under Demanski’s. Six people were injured just a couple of weeks ago in an avalanche up at peak near the Couloir. It happens.
