Rider’s Blog: Day 29
Today was my last day of riding till I get back from Australia. We had 8cm of very light snow overnight, all the way to the valley. I caught up with Shane and Paul morning this morning; it’s always good riding with these guys. Paul knows the mountain as well as anyone I know, so there’s always something new to learn.
We rode a couple of laps down Insanity, straight off the Creekside Gondola. Nearly all the other chairs were backed up and the snow was good to the bottom, so we just kept riding Creek for a while. Insanity was good, we got some interesting lines through there. I almost went off a rocky 20ft cliff trying to avoid Shane, but all ended well.
From there we decided to do some Garbanzo laps. The lines had died down and we did a few different hit run laps down to Garb. I always seem to find bigger lines when following Shane and Paul. There’s some really nice spots to launch off.
I caught up with Jeremy from Olliepop Films last night. We’re both really excited to get this series up and running. He’s already started filming and it won’t stop till the end of the season. I’m really looking forward to working with him. That’s about it for my blog for a couple of weeks. I hope the snow keeps falling and my Whistler friends have an awesome couple of weeks. Keep the blog going and I’ll be following daily. It’s been fun…
Awesome work on the blog so far Jeremy! It’s been good keeping up with all that’s going on in Whistler.
Looks like you’re leaving just in time to miss this massive arctic front coming through next week Jeremy. Temps are dropping considerably with most forecasts calling for -20 and -30 windchill. If they do drop that far I’ll try and head up for some riding but may just hit the gym and work on flexibility instead as I don’t really feel to keen on getting frostbite unless of course there’s fresh powder in which case I’ll rug up and drag myself up the hill for a few laps. Will also need to throw some cold wax on the board aswell as the current one was definitely feeling slower this afternoon after the temps dropped to -11 throughout the day.
My back is pretty much back to normal now which is great - no issues lifting kids onto chairs or carrying maze gates around at the end of the day, having 2 days of no intense riding and rest has done it wonders so I’m very happy about that.
Good to hear you’re fully fit, Finney. No dramas with your foot I take it?
Plenty of dramas with it.. have already had to get another shot of cortisone since getting here and I’m icing it pretty much every day. Hoping that it holds up for the season but if it doesn’t I won’t be surprised. Probably going to change lifts so I’m not wearing snowboard boots all day at work and to reduce the amount of riding I have to do on my work days so I can maximise my riding on my days off
Looks like a good fortnight of snow in the forecast, and ready just in time for me!!!!!
Maybe when you come the snow will be gone. JK Mizu

Bummer dude. Man you should definitely not be wearing your snowboard boots at work!!! Hope you can get that sorted and keep enjoying your riding.

I’ll blame you if it has, skip!!!!!
If the forecast is right, it looks like there’s gonna be a pow pow weekend comin up for you guys in Whis!!!!!
Yeah lets hope this forecast remains accurate.. as it is they’ve already cut it down as usual.
Was a few cm’s of some super dry snow that fell last night but still pretty crusty underneath. Only managed a lap or two before heading in this morning as the temps were just brutal out there today matched with the wind.
Shot in for some food at the roundhouse and warmed up a bit before riding out to the village. Got home around 11:30 and was instantly restless so shot back up blackcomb and did around 5-6 laps through the terrain garden with Nikky which was good fun. Just been working on getting my back 180’s off the jumps in there and very happy with how they’re going. Not washing out too much on the landing and have got the rotation sorted so very happy about that. Boxes have also been a lot more fun along with the rainbow they’ve got in there.
Will hopefully sort out a video of a ride through of the terrain garden at some point over the next week once I sort out a camera/gopro for the day.
Another interesting thing which happened today.. managed to break my new Sandbox helmet. Ended up with around a 2” crack in the middle of the brim where it joins to the main part of the helmet. Took it into Showcase in the village who got in touch with Sandbox who have since emailed me saying they’re happy to replace it. A++++ for the service from both Alex at Showcase and Josh at Sandbox - super quick resolution, couldn’t be happier.
how did u break it, did u kiss a tree ??

Just a tiny little love tap after catching a toe edge whilst riding switch. I had a closer look afterwards and there’s no damage to the edge of the brim and the foam is still in tact - old low profile I have has copped a lot of big hits over 2 seasons and is still in great shape so most likely just a weak point that became brittle in the super cold temps we’ve had the past 2 days. As I said previously the showcase/sandbox guys have been great in offering a replacement and are keen to inspect the damage to track it and put it into R&D.
