Binding Setback
Hey All. New to this forum and I am enjoying all of the discussions. My question is, I am off to Niseko in a couple of weeks and intend on taking my Ride Machete and Gnu Park Pickle. I picked these boards up after our season had finished so haven’t ridden them yet. They will be set up with Flux TT30 bindings. The last couple of seasons I have been riding a Ride Decade which is cambered with a 1/4 inch setback. Can you or do you need to set up my new boards with a setback to handle to JPan Pow, or are they fine ridden centered.

I think with the rocker in both of those boards there is no need for you to set them back. It might take a tiny bit to get used to if you havent ridden a twin board before. But you will be fine in no time. But if you didnt like they way it rode in pow it wouldnt hurt taking them back a bit. I rekon ride it twim and see how you like it
I rode my k2 parkstar in very deep pow in Japan and it has a similar rocker profile to the machette.

I tend to agree with K2; I’d probably try the board first to see if it floats sufficiently. A lot of factors will come into play, i.e. how much snow, your weight, riding technique etc. Give it a go on the reference stance and see what adjustments you need to make. If it’s sinking on you or you’re getting bad rear leg burn, set it back a whole inch. If you’re still having issues, don’t be afraid to set it back even more.
Your stance is something you should play around with anyway. Have a great time over in Niseko! 
Thanks for the reply. I’ll give riding the boards as a twin setup a go first, before changing the setback. Still considering taking my cambered Ride Decade and a rockered board as I have always ridden camber boards. I tend to ride a all mountain / freeride style. Not al interested in rails and boxes. Love looking for features to slash and generally ride a surfy kind of style. I have been riding for 16 years and skiied prior to that but have never looked back.
What’s ur weight and board lengths mate?

Being a surfer myself I reckon you will have a good time on the Gnu or the Machete rather than a cambered board especially in powder, I can only imagine the fun you can have on a rockered board on big open rollers, I think I’m starting to drool somewhat. I don’t think that the usual weakness of a rockered board where it gets a little weird at speed is going to be a problem at all in powder and it’s strengths will be impossible to beat.
I have a Lib Banana and a T Rice and I reckon I would be really interested to try both on a good powder day but I wouldn’t even take my old camber board, I haven’t touched it since I got the banana actually.
As far as setback goes, I rode my Banana on a heliboard day in NZ and didn’t touch the bindings (mine are centred at about 22.5” wide 15, -15) and it went awesome both natural and switch.
All this talk of riding the pow is making me salivate and get super excited. Fly out 12/2 for two weeks. After reading the last couple of posts, will definitely leave the cambered board at home. Will keep it for getting trashed in the lift lines at Perisher.
Clax to be honest I reckon you won’t want to ride the cambered board again, I love my banana but in Aus when you’re bombing down hardpack groomers in can get a little squirelly which is why I got the T Rice with the C2 camber and it took care of that. I think that the banana might be the better board in japow but I haven’t really had the T Rice in powder unless the last weekend of the season here in Oz counts. I was hoping I woulda got some powder in Tahoe over Xmas but that was not to be unfortunately!
A lot of the US has had poor snow this season. Friends have just come back from Colorado and it is the same there. After sampling JPan last year for the first time, it will be a long time before I spend the $$$ to cross the Pacific again. Having said that though, I have ridden epic Whistler and Vail and the size of those places is freakish.
