Recording your story just took one phenomenal leap forward.
Add an entire new layer to your boarding trip. The built-in GPS receiver tracks your location multiple times per second with pinpoint accuracy so you are able to capture your location, speed, and altitude while recording in beautiful hands free HD.
Make your video come to life with the Contour software. Watch your run via interactive map and video player that allows you to see and control the action. Challenge and compare stats with your friends to see who measures up.

Pin point accuracy?
A few people this year recorded 130km/h in the resort with high end GPS units. I doubt they achieved these speeds mid morning, without a race suit. Maybe when vertical speed is added to horizontal.
Though GPS is a good, useful addition for these camera’s.
Yeah, agreed Spaz, the Locations and mapping will be accurate, but the speeds I’d take with a grain of salt. Racing Ducati road bikes a while back, we found the most accurate speed measure is ‘radar’ gun.
The speed estimates add to the fun , defo the location/mapping features are useful.
it will be awesome for riding a big resort and showing what you did in a day on a map but other than that i dont think the GPS feature is all that important, however i will be getting one when i get to canada
On a high end edit I map the course taken in a resort on an empty trail map. It looks much better than what GPS provides.
Reviving an old topic. Was speaking to a sales rep about this on the weekend and what he had to say was fairly interesting.
Not really too fussed about the GPS side of things on this model but how easy it seems to be to use. The added bonus of the GPS model from what we worked out over just the standard model was also that it could connect via Bluetooth to your smartphone by downloading an app so you could see how the camera was set up/what it was seeing etc with ease.
Apparently with the gopro all updates are hardware updates but with this they release software updates which are apparently easy to load. An example the guy said to me was that when this originally came out it could record video and take 5mp freeze frame shots and if you put the latest software update on it you can also now do timelapse on it as well.
Looking between this and the drift at the moment, just starting my research and want to make sure I get what’s best for me.
Wondering if anyone has bought one of these or used one for a personal opinion on it?
You can obviously have a play with my DriftHD when I next see you.
Personally I ruled out the contour range pretty early in my research. I think they are the best looking of all the cameras but that’s pretty much where it stopped for me.
Price/Feature wise the contour range does didn’t add up vs the DriftHD and GoPro options. I ruled the GPS model out straight away as it is only a 135 degrees lens vs the 170 degrees lens on the competition. The bluetooth lcd is also useless to me in the surf and I hate getting my phone out all the time at the snow as it is. You also have access to that great perisher iphone app for GPS (come on perisher embrace us android users!!) The roam doesn’t do 60fps and overall the picture quality seemed to be worse than the driftHD and Gopro.
That’s also not true about the gopro not having software (firmware) updates as it does along with the driftHD
To summarise my current thought’s on the DriftHD vs GoPro2, If you like the look of the extra features the DriftHD has included over the GoPro2 (remote is very handy, lcd is nice, rotatable lens, lower profile design, tripod mount gives you a large choice of cheap mounts etc) the video quality so far is good enough to justify it’s purchase. The bundle price Spaz is offering also makes it an attractive option.
If you are to believe the hype and from the videos I’ve seen online the GoPro2 has the edge in overall video quality so is still very much worth considering. It will probably just cost you more to kit it up to a similar level of the Drift.
yeah i was thinking more along the lines of the drift after doing some further research late last night when i wasnt able to sleep…def going to have to have a look into yours when i see you, probably after Japan..quick question, can the drift cam go in any depth of water without the waterproofing case or is it always required?
also was just posting to see if anyone had actually bought one as i havent heard anyone really use this haha you are definitely right about the disadvantage with the lens’ as well…from the videos i have seen it doesnt seem like you get the fisheye picture on playback, can you confirm? dont know why i just dont call you since you’ve got it now lol
ignore above lol just saw ur thread
