Yeah the voices in your head must be tellling you all about the fresh snow at Whistler… theres no proof it as far as I can see!
Day I don’t know what.. lost count a while back haha
Before anyone asks.. there are no photos, no time to stop with the amount of fresh stuff out there.
Got on the Gondola at 8:20 this morning after meeting up with Chantelle and did a quick run down via roundhouse rolls to pony trail and then dropped off under Red Chair at one of my favourite places from last season, instant face shots from the 20+cm thats fallen over the past 24hrs. Dropped through the trees whcih could definitely use a bit more cover and ended up on the lower section of Jimmy’s Joker. Met up with Jeremy afterwards and did a run through Franz’s meadow down to highway86 -got some good turns in but in the trees it’s still a little patchy and could use a bit more snow pack on the base as it was a bit icy in places. Emerald trees were brilliant and hardly any patchy places. By this time the line up for Emerald was huge so we bombed down to Garbo and got straight onto a chair and then shot up to Red again. Whilst waiting to get onto Red the lightboard was updated to show that Peak was now open.
Shot up Peak and shot straight over to VD trees with Chantelle which was brilliant. Knee deep in places and pretty much untracked. Bombed a lap through there onto highway 86 where we met up with Jeremy as he took another line over to Doom and Gloom.
Jeremy and Chantelle had to bail after that lap s I shot up for another lap of VD and took a higher entry point which definitely paid off.. deeper snow again and no tracks through some sections. Had a quick break at ravens nest after after that lap and then shot back up to Peak again after a huuuuge wait at Red.
Bumped into some buddies from last season in the lift line and they said they were going to hit up Million Dollar Ridge so I tagged along with them for 2 laps. Visibility at the top was pretty average but as soon as we got down to the trees the visibility was perfect and still huge amounts of powder around. Some of the best riding I think I’ve had, plenty of fresh if you looked for it. For those that don’t know Million Dollar Ridge is out of bounds for most of the way down and meets up with Big Timber and Home Run which run off Peak to Creek
Got down to the bottom at Creekside at 3pm and jumped on the last gondola back up then rode down to the village. Haven’t done a first chair to last call day all season so I’m pretty shattered now but damn was it worth the punishment.
Sounds like ya had a ripper of a day, finney!!!!!
yeah it was pretty amazing.. funny thing is that everything hurts except my legs hahaha
Look I know there is no time for photos but surely someone could wear a go pro or something? No need to stop then!
Pleaasssseeeeeeeee
buy me a hero 2 and I’ll sort it out…..
haha!
Rider’s Blog: Day 16
It was snowing all day and evening yesterday, so there was bound to be some big powder stashes up there today. My friend from back home was arriving today (he’s currently working in Toronto and NYC). All the more reason to wake up early and get there for first chair (not literally, but I was there when it opened).
Caught up with Finney and Chantelle. Put a fast run down Franz’s Meadow. I took a different line to Finney and I feel I scored a better powder run, hehe. The run through all the trees to Emerald was sick with lots of fresh snow.
The highlight of my day was an epic run down Doom and Gloom off Peak. Untouched and deep enough to put a smile on my face.
I had to ride down and pick up my mate. We got him ready quickly and rode till 4:30pm. Sorry about the short blog today, I’m exhausted. The conditions are really good right now and there is another 50cm in the forecast.
Sorry guys, I’ll get the GoPro out soon.
