Packing Tips for Shred Trips!
Does the double decker fit within the measurements required for a carry on? (forgetting how much weight you pack in it? )
The key take away for most airlines nowadays is that you only get one bag. So most of us here are trying to find out if we can get a bag that takes all our gear (boots boards and clothing) in one bag and keep it under the 23kg allowed.
Thats why we use the wheeliegig. It fits so much that our biggest concern is packing too much and going over our weight limits.
Things change so much from airline to airline. If the the double decker fits within the carry on limits you said above, great try and check it with your snowboard bag (which will only have your board in it?) but be prepared to carry it on with you (so therefore have no other bags)
it all depends on your ticket/airline/destination
gross generalisations will only get you into trouble =)
**there is no way in hell you will get away with double deck as carry on
positively will not fit into overhead compartments

well i am flying with jetstar and on my ticket info says 10KG carry-on and i got 20Kg check-in which i paid 4 so all up i can take 30KG.

That old saying - ‘lay out everything you plan to take on your trip, then only take half’ is true!
You’re just going to Jp for a short trip right?
Okay so then you can only check 20kg.
If you don’t take a carry on bag then basically you forfeit that weight.

AJ I am scared that my ski gear and the wheelie gig will weigh more than my 23kg allowance! 20kg is not much!

i dunno if i am not been clear here i am simply trying to figure out how ppl are using burton double bag + snowboarding bag that is all.
those people using double decks are going north america (which allows 2 checked in bags) or going in couples 1 checks in snowboard bag other the double deck
plan it before hand
you should be able to fit all your regular clothes into a duffel or backpack for under 10kg
you really dont require much going out clothes…
boots/board/binders/helmet and 1 set of outerwear + wheelie gig + any other misc snowboarding stuff < 20kg
you can always just wear your jacket on the flight

I am on the same flights as two friends & we have discussed sharing baggage as Humdingaling suggest. 3 sets of skis and poles will fit in my wheeliegig. My only concern with that is the rule that only one set of ski gear only is allowed. Has anyone seen the rule enforced? (oh and that 3 sets of ski’s is still under the weight limits? )
you are getting confused with one set of ski gear rule
this was designed back in the day when snow gear was an (sometimes free or subsidised) extra
basically people were allowed snow gear on top of the regular 1 piece check in
if the wheelie gig is your only checked in luggage under 1 person
as long as its under the weight and size limit there should be no problems what so ever
as always
check with your airline on specific details such as this and if possible in writing….ie email
that way…you can hand it to their asses if they have sudden memory block
