13 sleeps to go!!!!!!!!

p.s. with the whole tipping thing in whistler, what happens if you don’t? ‘cause im going over with barely enough money to survive let alone enough money to tip red face

It depends on where you go. No where I’ve been is too heavy on it (Except for a few particular servers/bartenders who can be complete d!cks about it) but it’s still an expected thing so you’re better off doing it, even if it’s a small amount, than not at all.

I’m really not a fan of the culture but it’s understandable in America (minimum wage is like $3 an hour for bartenders/waiters). Here in Canada however, it’s hard to cop when the wage isn’t that low. I benefit from the culture as I’m in hospitality, but I’ll never expect tips because the moment you do is the moment your service drops.

Just got home from another brilliant day on the mountain..

Had a late start today being the weekend which usually means big crowds but it was absolutely dead up on Blackcomb. Went up with Marc and was later Joined by Meg and then Blake. Just doing some chilled laps working on our switch riding and starting to throw in a few small spins here and there on the flats and some side hits. Landed pretty much everything and my switch riding has come a long way after just a few hours of constantly riding switch so I’m pretty stoke to say the least.

Going to head up again tomorrow and keep at it.

Nice work Finney! Switch riding is the best.

Some places will include the tip in the bill when you’re in a large group and theres no way of avoiding it then but there are very few places like that.

Generally it’s not frowned upon but you’ll find that the service in most places is great so you feel obliged to tip anyway - crystal is one place I’m always happy to tip, staff are always friendly and look after you pretty well.

Although I did have my worst tipping experience in all my time in Whistler earlier this week. Was at Merlins, ordered a pint of beer and before I’d even had a chance to put the notes back in my wallet and look at the coins the bar tender shook the tips jar infront of me and said ‘you know how tips work here yeah?’ rudest person I’ve ever come across.. needless to say I didn’t tip him for the rest of the night. Told some of my canadian lifty mates about it and they couldn’t believe it either.

Anyways, enough being negative.. Here are some pictures I snapped on Saturday showing the inversion and the sun was going down over Whistler.

Chantelle, I’ll be riding tomorrow for sure. I’ve been doing a lot of strengthening and stretching over the last few days. Love that last photo you posted.

Mizu… ha. ha. raspberry

Yeah, I’ve embraced the tipping culture here. I find the service is usually so much better than you would get at home. As finney mentioned, most of the time you feel they deserve that bit extra. However if someone shook a tips jar at me, they would received zero cents. Can’t believe the cheek of that.

Sick last photo, finney!

Finney, Can you remember what the guy looked like? I also bartend at Merlins and have heard a few stories like this but no one has been able to narrow it down to which bartender it is. I’d really like to know because he would get reamed out for it pretty bad by all the other bartenders and the managers.

Another chilled day up on the hill for me today, just rode solo and threw on some good tunes to ride to - spent the most part of it working on my switch riding, definitely noticed a huge improvement which I’m stoked about, back 180’s off side hits are definitely getting a lot easier now aswell. Shot over to Whistler for some afternoon laps, bumped into Marc whilst he was on his break and did a quick run down to red then bumped into some other mates and did some laps through the small line on whistler park. All the boxes had massively bombed out landings which made it a bit of a challenge but even so good to see the small line is all built now since they’ve really started to build up the features in the main parks.

Will be back up the hill again tomorrow aiming for another full day of riding, got to make the most of my last days off before I start work on Friday.
