you disappoint me, Gamblor; I was hoping you’d pick the Vio and start a huge fight with Mizu
Hey, one fight at a time!
ps. Burton bindings > Flux
Ohh, is that one still on????? I was sure that FLUX and I won that weeks ago!!!!!
Are any of those cameras super waterproof? I’m not sure as I haven’t really looked into them lately. I think the fact that the GoPro is waterproof to 180 feet is a big selling point - at least it was for me. You can go diving with it, take it into huge surf etc.
spaz, do any of those other cameras compare in the waterproofing department?
Yeah, this was one major attribute that made me buy my GoPro as well!!!!!
Something that the water resistant “Colostomy Pouch” cams fail miserably at!!!!!
And I am 100% sure that the GoPro holds it own in a field that it was designed for!!!!! The proof is in all of the extreme sports participants using them, and these people aren’t just ya average Joe’s, they are some of the elite in their fields!!!!!!
If the GoPro was that bad, they just simply would not use it!!!!!
And while I agree it is the most ugliest on the market, it consistently blows the competition out of the water with it’s ease of use, and it’s adaptability in any sport!!!!!
I bought my camera so I can look at the picture that comes from it, and not to sit there and look at pictures of my camera!!!!!
hehehe Mizu
pictures of my camera
The only thing it blows the competition out of the water with is the claim of being 60m waterproof. Has anyone actually taken it to 60m? That’s farken deep!!!!! I have my reservations that it will survive that pressure - I know it wont capture any footage worth looking at. In 1m of water it can’t focus! and pressure changes cause condensation = fogging. A well documented problem.
Ease of use - it’s not close to the competition. The reviews on GP2 talk about how it’s improved but it still doesn’t have a functional wireless remote. I’ve sent out enough VIO on under 5yo kids that have operated them successfully - one button to rec the other to stop - recorder locked. Same set up on Drift. Even Contour is easier to operate.
Elite professionals get paid to use particular brands - thats their job, it’s why they are called professional. I doubt they are elite or expert in video/photography. After all isn’t that what pov cams are designed for… - so you don’t need to be an expert to get good footage, it just shoots what you look at. Professionals in the field of photography would rarely use a pov cam except in the situation a multi thousand dollar camera is unable to - like showing an elite athletes pov.
I agree on the colostomy bag comment but when it failed on my VIO. It had no issue staying in the surf another half hour, functioning fine, the colostomy bag full of water. The surf was 4’
VIO surpasses the international standard for waterproofing (?IP.67?). I’ve repaired water damaged recorders, never heard of a failed camera head on the vio.
I do not believe here is true rating past the IP standard (1m for 30mins) so GoPoo can make whatever claim they feel like. As can waterproof housing manufactures - but they don’t. A good waterproof housing for DSLR is in the thousands of $ and don’t come with any warranty, the people I’ve spoke to that build them tell me they only last so long.
Maybe GoPoo have cast a magical spell on the housing that protect it?
So any surfing footage or what have you of under water gopro stuff that looks good is most likely been tampered with after filming? thats a bit disappointing, im taking mine out on a surfboard hopefully soon, will be a bit gutted if the market has deceived me…. (good thing it was a present and didn’t cost me nothing) but im still ecstatic about it for my dirt bike
My first use of it, its kinda long and boring wouldn’t recommend watching it all…..

Ya make me wanna get another traily, MW!!!!!
This edit was done last summer on my GoPro HD, ya lose a crap load of quality when ya upload to Youtube, and it makes the water scenes look very pixelated!!!!!
This is Youtube and NOT the camera!!!!! It has a couple of seconds of me surfin with it, so it’ll give ya an idea as to what it looks like!!!!!
Ya make me wanna get another traily, MW!!!!!
DO IT!!!!
Dirt bikes are my true passion :D
Very limited places to ride around where I am!!!!! ie Requires a full day in order to travel then ride!!!!!
Rego is friggin $$$$$, plus the depreciation/maintenance on ya bike!!!!!
The snow won out, mainly cause the Boss enjoys the snow as well!!!!!
Ya ridin an oil burner EXC, 200/250/300?????
Had myself a Husky TE450 as my last bike!!!!!
That there is a brand spanker 2012 250exc, love it to bits!!!
cnet’s reveiws on VIO and GoPro
Interesting!!!!!
Yeah interesting reviews Mizu. Don’t let Spaz see he probably won’t like the score comparison
Will be good to read the review for the Drift HD, hopefully they get onto that soon.
cnet’s reveiws on VIO and GoPro
Interesting!!!!!
Interesting! thank you!
So I think that the design of the VIO is better, it’s not a clumsy box :D and I don’t like ugly gadgets, but as cnet says, you’ll always be struggling with the cable!
Cnet comment on the bag without instruction is not really an issue to me, I mean there is google and as spaz said, after 30 min you should be able to figure out how things work ^^
Also it says the VIO is waterproof, but I don’t see how I could mount it on a surfboard??
I wan’t to use a camera for snowboarding, surfing and vacation movies and it looks to me that the GoPro is handier in that way.
I think they are both good, honest reviews.
Score comparison - I’m fine with but only if you take consideration of the review/s.
The connecting cable is a compromise made for quality and headmounting (weight).
It’s near impossible to mount to a surfboard. I’ve done it to a soft-board and boogie by cutting into the foam for the recorder to also be mounted but it means hurting your board something no surfer wants to do.
For surfing I put vio inside my wetsuit (small of my back), run the cable down my arm and have the cam mounted on my wrist. It’s a pretty cool angle!

So no surfboard mounting :/
I’ve been watching some videos on youtube and it looks to me that the VIO gives a darker image then the gorpro?? I don’t know anything about video so I don"t what this is?
And is it possible to change the fov on the VIO since I find that it looks a bit wide to me?

I can feel a bike thread coming on…..
